(13,958 characters)all right everybody time has come for another home makeover remodel and today we're gonna do the bathroom this vanity gotta throw it out we're not gonna have it we're gonna get rid of this toilet and we're gonna move it right there and you better believe we're gonna remodel this shower we're gonna make it fancy we're gonna have a glass door have this whole built-in thing rip this thing out demo day [Music] go outside turn off our main water valve and then we can unscrew this and take it off so i'm gonna go unscrew it or shut it off and then take this off [Music] there's really just two nuts underneath these little white covers that are there i will say this give it one last flush if you can once that's drained in the reservoir there's some water still backing up here um if you have a bathtub just drain the rest of it there and then carry carried out how do i know that made plenty of [Music] [Applause] [Music] mistakes [Music] i'm gonna take my pry bar and i'm gonna try finding a corner create a little leverage as soon as i feel a little bit of wiggle room i'm gonna take this shovel yeah shovel and i'm gonna shove it in there and i'm gonna try to kind of slowly pry it off as big chunks as i can how about we use a shovel right now [Music] oh i get to get a whole lot and then here is our toilet and it seems like it's curving from right there to there so all i have to do is just cut the rest of this floorboard out here right between the floor joist and extend it to go right there [Music] [Applause] once you find access to your water meter labeled water meter turn there and just like that the water's off let whatever is there drain and now when we cut our lines it's not gonna just squirt all over the place [Music] our new adapter a little bit of primer [Music] we need to create the bend you don't want to exceed five foot extension reason why after that you have to start reconfiguring your vent tubing [Music] oh man remodeling the bathroom they said it was [Music] fun uh there seems to be a joist running across this way so it's just across one joy so we need to get hop over we shouldn't have too many issues after that at least it's one could you imagine if it's multiple that would suck do you remember like a really long time ago when i said at least it's only one joist that i gotta crowd across no i gotta hop too all right i'm frustrated it's so impossible for me to find those two little holes that far away i'm just gonna rip this piece of drywall off i'll just get it done quicker we got it sometimes you got to be barbarian about it man i'd rather fix this than spend another hour trying to freaking you know yeah [Music] yes this vent pipe you have to limit the amount of turbulence that happens you can't just do 90 and 90. you have to pass six inches above the flood level of your sink now the alternative option is to do a 45 degree at an angle coming out and then wherever you want to do the 90. that allows for you to have adequate drainage and proper setup [Music] what we're going to do is just kind of get rid of some harsh spots i use 80 just because i'd rather do one or two very light passes than spend the whole time with 220 or 180 but you do you boo this is a high spot that's a low spot right you do like a knock down to it where again it's light pressure on on the the drywall knife or trial whatever you use and less is more when it comes to drywall stuff texture [Music] all right so the schluter membrane the uncoupling membrane that we put down is down and by the way if you're wondering where what it's for it does multiple things it's a waterproofing membrane at the same time it is something that disperses the pressure of the tile so it doesn't start cracking on you probably one of the most important parts i think i'm also going to treat myself to a nice tile song because i didn't pay a guy to do this and i saved a ton of money by doing it [Music] myself [Music] these little shims which are spacers these are 16 inch they go underneath the two pieces of tile then in that slot we slide the wedge in that has little locking steps inside and then to really force it to level with the next uh tile that it's next to we'd use this tool to compress it together [Music] [Applause] [Music] hmm every time you see a red on your tape measuring uh that is usually these major numbers are the 16 on center that already separate on tech tape measure for people for framing so here's a prime example what i usually do is i find one stud and then i measure from there so here's a prime example because this stud's already exposed so if that is our one of our 16 on center check this out the next one is 32 and yep mine's up there [Music] i'm gonna be using my craig foreman it looks like an intimidating machine this is what i originally started with this is a craig mini this cost you maybe 20 or 30 bucks if you don't have that use this [Music] trees [Music] all right so i got a water-based polyurethane it is a sad nothing too crazy uh usually my rule of thumb is about three coats or four coats of this stuff let it cure and then we'll start installing this thing here's the issue that i'm running into and i'm kind of frustrated this entire wall goes up to 21 inches before it hits its first stud i don't have a stud to secure this part well i didn't consider the fact that it's a floating vanity i'm not going to have enough room for a trap here crap crap crap so this is a wooden leg i figured out that i could stain it the exact same color as this cabinet and mount them right in the middle underneath the cabinet that way i have center mass strength we have to do the countertop the countertop we're gonna again keep it budget friendly i'm gonna do a fiber reinforced concrete and it's probably gonna be the first time i'm gonna aim on the thinner side inch to inch and a half no bigger than that i went with an inch and a quarter inch at an inch i know i know i i don't know if it's gonna break we're just pushing on the envelope we're pushing the boundary [Music] our job is to make sure we get as many bubbles out i feel like i'm just hitting a roadblock on every part of this project listen we all get to these parts of every project where we just want to throw a wrench at the wall we're just going to learn something new from this we'll take it on to the next one and a pretty cheap lesson learned so let's go do it again because i don't have much room to lift and pour like a two inch slab of concrete i'm gonna get another piece of plywood i'm gonna cut it to exact width and length of this entire thing edge band it around stain the exact same thing and then i'm going to cover it with a varnish um we're going to put some wood glue clamp this thing down let it dry and then once it's dry we're going to start using this product from total mode it's it's called a a halcon clear it's a it's a clear gloss varnish and the best kicker is that you can reapply uh the next coat uh within an hour so wait an hour apply another coat this will allow for it to have a very durable strong coating on top without having the water destroyed the pattern that i'm doing is a chevron pattern i've never done it so it's going to be an adventure we'll see what kind of problems we run into this is a marathi amaratsi tile from home depot it's their blue whatever i legit spent about a solid hour and a half and the reason why the bottoms are always the hardest to start because you're so paranoid to make sure that everything's square so let's start busting this out and see how far i can get [Music] i now went and when picked up a diamond bladed a hole saw to cut out these precision marking use my uh you know box cutter knife or whatever to actually mark out exactly where that hole is going to be use this as a template place it on the tile and then drill my hole from there [Music] if you take the same popsicle sticks and you start rubbing it the grout you start rubbing running it through the grout you'll start peeling off all the excess and then after that go over it again with your sponge to even flatten everything out and then you'll have far better grout lens here are the anchors that i use this one has a strength of 265 pounds we're gonna drill a hole shove this thing inside pop it open this way slide this little collar over and then break off these little s stylets maybe how nice does that look [Music] all right p-trap time there's usually about one phillips screw in there that makes a snob come out there's two phillips screws on the sides to make this plate pop off this little spigot there's a little uh allen wrench key loosen it up this slides off what we have to do is we have to cut inch and a quarter ish on the outside perimeter get the drywall off and then we'll see those screws unscrew them and then with a little bit of putty knife and a little bit of a utility knife cutting this thing should pop off i'll probably have to unloosen it and then cut up a couple pieces and take it out that'll probably the easiest and the most funnest [Music] i remember when i was a kid my dad used to he didn't want to go buy the tool so he'd always make his own tool so [Music] uh i still have a gap right here that's uh thickness of a stud i'll have to get a stud two by four run it from there to there and then to that stud put up a like a one by three or something like that and then that one by three is what's going to be supporting this piece there this is my very first time doing an actual bathtub installation so we just learned something together congratulations we'll take it to the next build [Music] the 2x4 was wrong because if the 2x4 was there and the 1x2 this would be spaced out way too far yes this would be lined up but this has to be flush against the stud so underneath there behind there it's just a 1x2 supporting this ledge so now we can put our kerdi-backer board against this and it will flow everything inside i have to move that over which that part is easy it's a couple of screws but that here i have to go in my crawl space chop it off move it and then secure it so this is a schluter system and it is a waterproofing membrane it is a cement board replacement it is an all-in-one process use the specific screws that are water tightening screws to secure it through the studs basically you'd hang sheetrock [Music] for 120 bucks more i kind of splurged and got a product that's very easy to work with i could basically do this all in one day we use the kerdi schluter waterproofing membrane it's in a roll something like this is about 18 bucks or so and we're going to use a thinset an unmodified thinset apparently has something to do with the drying and curing time then the trowel is a quarter inch v-groove trial we're going to put a layer on roll this stuff on and then use the back end of this or you know a drywall knife and press out squeegee out everything in there so it's got nice strong [Music] adhesion [Music] all right so right now we're going to start installing the hardware here before you put the new tub in attach a new version of all these plumbings for the overflow and the bottom drain and then carefully slide it into place and then hook it up from the bottom it's just it's there's not enough space below so um that's just lesson to learn pass it on to you my frustrations your win let's do [Music] this [Music] use a quarter inch tile bit uh drill the holes through the tile put the anchors that came with this kit inside of them and then secure this in place once it's in place then we'll take our whole glass because it's got another piece of metal it slides right in here it allows for it to open and close as you need it once you get it in place then we'll secure it to keep it from moving seems pretty basic let's not screw it up [Music] hey thanks for watching and watching yet another one of my videos guys this process has been incredible we've learned a ton along the way though it was frustrating while we got started with it these are critical lessons that we'll be able to take to the next project it's going to make us better builders and better people along the way curtin's white guys that's our motto you need the courage to to tackle on project this and you need the sweat to deal with these frustrating scenarios that come along the way um it's just it's just what you have to do to just improve along the way this project has really come a long way guys you've i hope you guys follow this process and if you bring the channel
