This video features a discussion between a "Master Electrician Dad" and his "Apprentice Son" about the business realities of electrical contracting. The dad explains that 98% of electrical contractors are small, typically one or two people, with only 2% having more than two employees. He attributes this to inexperience and the challenges young entrepreneurs face. He then discusses the concept of becoming a "powerhouse" by staying "lean" and managing cash flow, emphasizing that staying lean is always the best approach for growth. The video provides insights into the structure and strategy within the electrical contracting industry.

98% of all electrical contractors are one and two people. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> Oh. >> Only 2% of electrical contractors have more than two men. >> Why do you think that is? >> Well, a lot of times it's [music] inexperience. A lot of times guys when they're new and they're younger have something to prove. They've gone through a lot of [music] challenges to get to become where they're at and be getting their license and now they want to be the guy. There are some monster electrical contractors and a lot of them are bought up by some major players on Wall Street. >> Yep. >> So technically that's one electrician. So [music] you got one electrician that can employ thousands of guys. >> You think it's better to have a bigger company or stay lean? >> Well, lean is always the way to go. Staying lean is number one, but you can become a bigger company and be lean and you're a powerhouse. I would say it's always best to be as lean as possible and let your cash flow help your growth. >> [music]
