[Music] [Applause] [Music] hey guys check this out it's right there it's a giant cockroach don't swear I can't look at the size of this thing compared to my plan gee there's garbage everywhere in this city I mean you can't go you can't move without stepping on garbage and dragging it through and kicking it around these guys got tough work holy Wow all right you guys we're in New Orleans but today we're not gonna be just checking out Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street and the parties but we're gonna be checking out what it takes to get it ready for the next day these guys work 365 days a week and I just found out that sometimes they put 20 21 hours a day in we're gonna be showing you exactly what it takes to get the job done so what are we waiting for let's do this thing some onion chicken looks good cheese stuff she's off to work at the hospital but in 20 minutes yeah did she make supper for us before she goes sometimes which is really awesome because the kids don't like frozen Jack's pizza over and over again every night for some reason yeah I don't know why gross it's good stuff so we went to New Orleans and we accidentally went to Mardi Gras I know that sounds kind of weird right accidentally going to Mardi Gras but you planned it out because we missed our anniversary long story short when I say we it was supposed to snow and so yeah like a dusting it was pathetic I still had to go mmm and you said you booked a trip for us to New Orleans mm-hmm which happened to be you didn't know about it when you did it yeah she's like why is it so expensive to go to New Orleans I'm like I don't know it shouldn't really be that exists I did I like New Orleans I really like New Orleans I think it's awesome it's a fun place but it was Mardi Gras yeah it was Mardi Gras oh it was crazy and I was like it pumps for the parties and everything else but what I didn't expect was the garbage I mean I didn't expect her but she seemed to think it was normal but if you ask I mean do you think the day not at the very end that's successive but parade after parade and throwing stuff at people and so alright so in their defense so you guys are gonna see tons of garbage and some of you guys are gonna get pissed and I get it it's it's yeah but it's how many parades do they have there during Mardi Gras it's not one parade one day it's like multiple parades every day it starts in the morning it's like 10 o'clock you get up there's a parade I think there was a parade going at 8 one morning and it's just constant parades and so there is a crew and when you get up really early in the morning the streets are spotlessly clean good of a job they do they get angry it's crazy I mean they're like scrub clean they're scrubbed clean but at night you can't it's hard to walk I mean you are literally kicking garbage to the side and so I wanted to find out what it takes to do that and so yeah we did yeah so that's what we did and that's what we're gonna bring to you guys the entire process from start to finish to everything in between sounds right all right so what are we waiting for let's do this thing all right you guys first off I got to apologize I was not expecting any of this I only had my iPhone with me so that's what I filmed it and I tried to catch these guys night after night and I would always miss them because they were never know where they're gonna be at they're just so fast it's hard to keep up with them so this footage was filmed with an iPhone the next night I went out searching for the crews with my GoPro but they were already done waiting for the next parades to clear and so I got a chance to interview the guys and talk to them and we're gonna go to that footage here in just a moment a far-out can there extend you guys know how far out this can extend so you guys have a special poly edge on it so you don't scrape up the street right how long so huh how good is how long is that good for how long have you guys been running this unit four or five years as they better the hell to hold up good for you I don't want to say that yeah no problems with it Ram right there but that's an old that's a that's after the fact so do you use this setup to clean bourbon and all the streets what time do you guys do that yeah [Music] Arbutus same so you guys start this main street of what like midnight okay okay it's so you guys work all night long rain or sleet rain sleet or shine right cuz it's I mean I got I got up and it was spotless I don't see the shot too much we didn't sleep at all they aborted try to sleep people start calling you on the phone they thank you where are you guys now because with the city are you private contractor and we do work for the city okay see you're private that's why you guys can work so much because if you guys were part of the city they they'd be like oh eight hours yeah you're done see all right so this is all your guys was set up then yeah I was watching you guys the other night that was just cool you guys had laid it out Minnesota so you guys also used backpack blowers it's not all the guys with the backpack floors your guys too okay the dump trucks was with the city okay so you don't have to haul do the hauling you just gotta get out we into the car - but that was [Music] okay so when so like when do you guys start not like the hours but like I mean but before Mardi Gras and then you guys go till like oh wow Oh oh this is a twist is 365 gig for you guys this is you always end up with him jobs I can't get that money now I know some of you guys are automatically going to start saying ah they operate so slow they don't know how to run this equipment but one of the things I want you guys to keep in mind as you watch this segment there's people running back and forth in front of and behind the equipment the entire time they're operating so they've gotta actually be pretty cautious about what they're doing or it could be an accident [Music] the worst part is is the people that are walking past this equipment just automatically assume that we can see them you know they don't realize that when you're operating a piece of equipment like that you've got boom arms on the sides you got all this limited visibility and they just skirt in and out back and forth in between thinking that they have the right of way and maybe they legally have the right away but once they're hit by a piece of equipment their life is never gonna be the same so just it's frustrating is an equipment operator I'm guessing a few of you guys can definitely relate with just the frustration of trying to deal with people especially at a busy street also vehicles and all of them army not all of them but a lot of them are actually intoxicated so they're not in the right mind in the first place it's a tough set of conditions so after the phase 1 cleanup goes through the backup crew comes in well they're not really backup but the guys with brakes leaf blowers these guys come in and they start looking for stray garbage trying to keep it all in line because and they're done the streets are they do a really good job doggie like why am i famous all of a sudden until I ran into this one which almost stepped on [Music] all right I thought some of you guys would like that but then I also figured some of you guys would like to see what Bourbon Street is really like so I stuck a GoPro on my head and I just walked down the street for as long as we could tolerate it but I really like it and it's too crowded I mean [Applause] so the later in the night it goes and the younger the crowd gets of course during the day Bourbon Street is actually pretty crowded still but the crowd is much older probably in the upper 30s 40s 50s 60s and even 70s but at nighttime the age definitely shifts [Music] [Applause] [Music] and that's about all my wife can take because she was carrying the backpack with all the stuff in it and trying to carry backpack through there is but this next part is really cool they've got Mounted Police officers everywhere and the horses are so insanely calm I don't know if they draw them or what they do but these horses they're stoic they're just like dead set on their job and I mean it's amazing how well-behaved these horses are that is so cool isn't that cool all in all I love New Orleans there's so much going on so much history everywhere you look there's new things to be seen and discovered it's such a fun place to go [Music] [Applause] all right so while we're still filming and I thought we were done - what would you recommend what would you say to these guys if they were going to go to Mardi Gras for the first time any advice words of wisdom I mean now that you're an experienced Mardi Gras er no bring earplugs the sirens go off all night pups constantly book your hotel early that's cuz it was expensive I mean how much did we spend for two people for four days I was like three grand yeah just not I mean it was stupid expensive and I think the year before we went it was that round-trip ticket but the year before when we went it wasn't Mardi Gras how much was it yeah so if you booked early I mean and would you say Mardi Gras swear that I guess if you're like 20 25 maybe they were the partiers Oh which I was surprised they were everywhere that was pretty awesome seeing 50 67 year old people just going crazy there weeds on their feathers their hats or makeup there yes that was fun it was a lot of fun for me it was a bucket list thing one one and done the next thing I want to go to is that what's that festival in Brazil called it's like grow bigger really yeah Brazil except I don't know Brazil kind of scares me yeah a little bit a lot of a lot of people get abducted in Brazil yeah from what I hear but maybe Brazilian people are awesome yes of course there are I don't know just please don't kidnap me when I go all right we're done god bless you'll get into you guys hope you enjoyed the video and check out these other two videos right here
