Little Known Pressure Washing Secrets. How to Powerwash Anything!

this paint life tv i'm christy idaho painter in this video i'm going to be giving you some professional pressure washing tips right here on the house i got a house and i've also got some concrete i'm going to be using some tools i'm using our pressure washer i'm also going to be using an all surface cleaner and an all-surface cleaner is well worth the investment if you don't have one because it makes pressure washing concrete or flat surfaces like decks and stuff a lot faster and more efficient and it's going to look a lot nicer the end result so if you want to see the all surface cleaner in action is it something that you should get or if you want some professional tips pressure washing your project stay tuned for this video [Applause] [Music] all right so i'm going to be working on this house right here i'm going to be pressure washing a house i'm going to be using a pressure washer i'm going to be using a wand and an extension so i don't have to get on any ladders so i'm going to show you some tips and tricks so you don't have to get on ladders and climb on roofs when pressure washing because that's dangerous i'm also going to be showing you the all surface cleaner this is what i use for cleaning decks or concrete surfaces this is going to make cleaning concrete surfaces or decks twice as fast as cleaning it with a wand and it's also going to look a lot nicer you're not going to have any striping on the concrete or any lap marks or overlap marks at all because this all surface cleaner has two rotating heads on here it spins and rotates and it cleans the surface fast and efficiently but it also doesn't leave any striping it looks really nice when done this thing is well worth the investment another thing i use along with the all surface cleaner is an on off valve right here so i can switch from my all surface cleaner to a wand when i want to do my edges around concrete and stuff like that where the all surface cleaner won't get this is another must must-have tool right here when it comes to pressure washing well worth the investment it's going to pay for itself in time saved on the job just like the all surface cleaner so i'm going to get this thing in action this thing does take actually the higher the psi the better it actually operates i do have a larger pressure washer than this but when i'm working alone it's too big to get in and out of my vehicle this one's going to work just fine this is a 3000 psi pressure washer mighty m pressure washer i believe let me see gallons per minute this one operates at 2.4 gallons per minute my pressure washer that operates at 4 000 psi 4 gallons per minute is a lot faster and more efficient and it'll reach high areas and flood the surface a lot faster the all surface cleaner will even work a lot faster but this thing is going to be just fine with my all-service cleaner all surface cleaner i use it all the time so let's get going i'm going to show you some more tips and tricks as i'm cruising right along pressure washing all right so i'm going to start getting set up using my pressure washer i'm going to be pressure washing the house first and then i'm going to be doing the concrete after that because all the dirt and debris coming out of the gutters and stuff off the house if i clean my concrete first then that's going to get all dirty i do like wearing gloves and if you don't wear gloves when i'm unwinding and winding up the the hoses and stuff your hands will get extremely dirty so i do like wearing gloves even though they're going to get wet i'm going to get it all set up ready to go here and and start pressure washing another thing you want to do is um you're going to want to purge all the air out of your system before you attempt starting it up another thing when pressure washing it's a good idea if you're going to be around the pressure washer i'm in close vicinity to use uh hearing protection i always keep it at quite a distance away so i don't need hearing protection but i do wear eye protection safety glasses these are edge eyewear safety glasses so those glasses that i like to wear because they actually kind of look cool so i'm going to allow all the air to come out of my system purge it all another thing i'm going to give you tips and tricks shutting your pressure washer down every time i'm done with it i actually run uh antifreeze through it so it doesn't freeze in the winter time but it also said does it corrode internally and in the winter time it doesn't freeze in the summertime it doesn't corrode we get all the air out all the airs it's about out gonna hook up my wand so i'm gonna be using a wand i like the rotating nozzle because it rotates and agitates the surface i don't like using chemicals a lot of people ask me what chemicals i use i don't use any chemicals pressure washing i don't like to use anything chemicals whether they're environmentally safe or not just don't like to deal with them i've had a lot of success for 20 years using a rotating nozzle not damaging surfaces just using it carefully and it cleans very well i'm going to be using a straight nozzle and my long six foot extension this is another absolute must-have tool this will help you get these high areas and i see i got some hornets nests up here at the top and with this six foot extension a straight shot nozzle i'll be able to knock those things right down so we're gonna get going pressure washing got my on off valve we want it in the ons position make sure all our air is purged out when i start my system i want to make sure i'm pulling the trigger if i'm not pulling the trigger there's a lot of back pressure on the pump it's a lot harder to start your pressure washer or actually pull pull the pull string to start it so squeeze your trigger and then it'll start right up now i just want to show you right here if i was just using my rotating nozzle to clean my surface right here you can see the striping and stuff that will be left behind if you don't clean it 100 and if you miss any spots you're going to see that striping and it's not going to look very good at all so this is one of the reasons why the all surface cleaner is beneficial it won't do that at all it cleans it 100 with no striping and no lap marks all right so we're cruising right along pressure washing getting this thing done i'm about uh three quarters of the way done just gonna give you some more tips and tricks and when it comes to pressure washing around the screen so i'm using my rotating nozzle almost 90 percent of the time i do like to clean the screens as part of my pressure washing now a lot of the screens are going to be oxidized pretty old so really stay you know pretty far back from the screen until you're comfortable you're cleaning it but not actually leaving stripes on it or marks on it because they can be very fragile when oxidized and i actually striped one of the screens on purpose so you can see what happens if you get too close because i'm going to re-screen it so i just wanted to give you a look at what it looks like also on the concrete when you're doing the concrete make sure you're not striping the concrete if you do get stripes on the concrete i did stripe it out front so you can see what it looks like you'll have to go back and really clean it a hundred percent to get those stripes out and really work those things out but the the mi-t-m um all-service cleaner is an absolute amazing tool along with the shut off valve right here the the shut off valve so you can switch between your all surface cleaner and your uh wand because you need to do corners and edges and stuff like that and you saw me switch out there is an all surface cleaner with wheels on it the thing has without wheels it floats pretty well but if you want it to be a lot easier to manipulate and move it around you can get it with four wheels on it that makes it a lot easier to do if you're doing a lot of concrete the ones with wheels do make a difference once again i do like wearing gloves and i do like wearing eye protection also when it does when it comes to pressure washing the house you'll stay far enough back until you get close enough that you're actually cleaning the surface you can see this side right here it was extremely dirty the rotation and agitation of the nozzle cleans it extremely well without chemicals but you got to get close enough to actually get that agitation to work but not so close to damaging the surface once again i've been using these rotating nozzles for about 20 years this is a 5 000 psi rotating nozzle from mi-t-m and these are the best i've ever used they don't last forever they do have a rotating ceramic ball so they i go through probably three of them you know every year and they're you know around 90 i'll leave it down in the video description below you know how much they do cost so just cruising right along i do uh use my rotating nozzle to when i'm done cleaning just to sweep leaves and stuff off the concrete i did do the back patio right here you don't need the all surface cleaner i just used my agitating nozzle just to rotating nozzle to just do the back patio porch right here that comes outside the garage stay stay away from lights you can actually damage and break lights i've done that before in my career getting too close to lights because they get fragile they oxidize also in the sunlight sunlight does a lot of damage to uh the lights and stuff so be very careful once again just stay far back enough until your comfort uncomfortable that you're cleaning and not doing any damage and once again i do actually like that all surface cleaner it does make you know cleaning decks we got a deck back here that we clean um large driveways any concrete makes it cleaning probably two to three times faster for you know investment about 300 it's gonna pay for itself probably you know on the first job you do in the labor saved you know and time saved and doing the job and also the frustration and also not striping your concrete you can see how it cleans you know out front the concrete nice and easy even and efficiently another tip when it comes to pressure washing your gutters the rotating nozzle cleans and the agitates gutters really well the gutters are metal so you want to clean those things really good especially if you're going to be painting them and the rotating nozzle cleans them very effectively and efficiently so you've got to grab one of these rotating nozzles if you've never used one you've got to try one once again i think this is the i use this probably 90 percent of the time doing my cleaning i'll switch out to a straight nozzle it's rare if ever do i ever use a flat tip a flat tip is so slow pressure washing and it has a tendency to stripe fences and it just doesn't clean very quickly at all get yourself a rotating nozzle so another tip i want to share with you when it comes to pressure washing especially when you got high sides like this and you've got a house always work from the top bottom if you're working from the bottom up you're just going to end up cleaning you know the bottom a second time because you're going to be working your way up working dirt from top of the house down to the bottom of the house so i'm always trying to work from top down not bottom up top down bottom up same if you have to get on the house work on the top of the house get on the roof work on the roof and work your way down so i'll do all your high stuff first and then do all your low stuff second that way you're not power washing over yourself a second time cleaning up it's same with the concrete and decks and stuff like that i don't want to you know clean my concrete and stuff around this house and then do my house because then i'm gonna have to clean it all over again try to work efficiently all the time paint lazy so another thing i want to share with you when it comes to a rotating nozzle not all rotating nozzles are the same so this rotating nozzle from mighty m it actually has a filter in it so it filters any debris that could clog up your nozzle if you're actually hooking up to we do have a lot of irrigation valves and stuff in a lot of the houses and the irrigation water it's pretty dirty water so it's important to have a filter that's going to filter your rotating nozzles so it's not going to clog it because it does have a pretty small orifice if you clog that with some type of debris then it's no longer going to function anymore get one with a filter all right one very last tip also straight nozzle straight nozzle this house has lots of hornets uh hornet's nest on it and the rotating nozzle isn't as effective getting rid of hornet's nest throw on your straight nozzle it's going to knock those things right off it's a good idea to kill the hornets first because if you knock them off with this and they're still alive all you're going to do is piss off the hornets and you're going to get stung and once again i know from past experiences that making hornets mad is not a good thing so there you have it some tips and tricks pressure washing a house and pressure washing concrete if you've
