What happens here

Once all the roof trusses are in their approximate positions, workers begin the crucial task of permanently securing them. This involves fastening the base of each truss to the wall's top plate using appropriate fasteners such as hurricane clips or angle brackets, along with nails or screws. Additionally, lateral bracing, purlins, and any necessary blocking are installed between trusses to ensure the entire roof structure is rigid, stable, and capable of withstanding loads. The telehandler may be repositioned or its boom adjusted to provide a stable platform or to move tools and materials as needed during this phase. Workers use ladders and potentially walk along the top plates and temporary sub-framing to access all areas.

Goal: Permanently fix all roof trusses and bracing.

Tools and materials

  • Cordless Nail Gun β€” Rapidly fastening trusses to top plates, installing blocking, and bracing
  • Fasteners
  • Ladders β€” Providing safe access to the top plates and the various elements of the roof structure
  • Lateral Bracing Lumber β€” Providing rigidity and stability to the truss system, preventing lateral movement
  • Level β€” Checking that trusses are plumb (vertically straight) and that top chords are level where required
  • Measuring Tape β€” Ensuring accurate spacing between trusses and for precise placement of bracing
  • Safety Glasses β€” Protecting eyes from wood splinters, dust, and flying debris during fastening
  • Work Gloves β€” Protecting hands from splinters, cuts, and abrasions while handling lumber
