Lake Speed's Forgotten NASCAR Engine is READY TO RIP! 90's Ford C3 with Modern Tech Dyno Test

What happens here

The video introduces the project by presenting the background of NASCAR driver Lake Speed and his two untouched race cars and engines from 20 years ago. The goal is to take one of these engines, refresh it, make more power, and put it back in the car for Lake Speed to drive again. The engine is delivered to PME Engines (Pro Motor Engines) for the rebuild. The lead engine builder, Dennis Boreham, a NASCAR engine builder for over 30 years, discusses the overall plan: to document, source, and explain the parts used to freshen the engine without changing its fundamental structure (block, heads, crankshaft, rods).

Goal: Understand the project scope and initial state of the engine.

If you went back and watched a NASCAR race from the glory days of the late 1980s, Lake Speed is a name that you would see. Lake was a regular in the Winston Cup series for over 20 years. Prior to that, he was a world champion go-kart racer. In 1986, he built a shop in his backyard and started his own race team. As you've seen on this channel before, we showed you his entire race shop that's still in his backyard where he has two cars left and two engines. They have not been touched in 20 years. He made us a deal. He said, "You know what? You take that engine, get it freshened up, make it make some more power, put it back in the car, and I'll drive it again." and he's 75 years old. So, we took it over to Dennis Borham at Pro Motor Engines. Dennis has been building NASCAR engines for over 30 years. Over the last several months, we have been all over the country documenting, sourcing, and explaining the parts that we've used to freshen this 20-year-old engine time capsule of NASCAR technology up to some more modern stuff without changing the bones of the engine. It's still the same block, the
