Finish Paver Installation
At 0:15 in
It’s just the honest truth
What happens here
After all pavers, including the custom-cut pieces, have been laid and seated, the installation is nearing completion. The next steps, though not shown in the video, are critical for the longevity and stability of the paver surface. First, install paver edge restraints along the perimeter to prevent the pavers from shifting or spreading. Then, spread polymeric sand evenly over the entire paver surface. Using a broom, sweep the sand into all the joints between the pavers until they are completely filled. Finally, lightly mist the polymeric sand with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. The water activates a bonding agent within the sand, which hardens as it dries, locking the pavers in place, preventing weed growth, and deterring insect infestation. A final pass with a plate compactor may be done over the completed, dry surface to further settle and stabilize the pavers.
Goal: Secure and finalize the paver pathway/patio
Tools and materials
- Broom — Sweeping polymeric sand into paver joints
- Garden Hose with Spray Nozzle — Misting polymeric sand to activate its bonding agent
- Paver Edge Restraints — Securing the perimeter of the paver installation to prevent movement
- Plate Compactor — Final compaction of the entire paver surface after sand is in place (often with a protective mat)
- Polymeric Sand — Filling and hardening paver joints for stability and weed inhibition
