What happens here
Dan Styer from GripEdge Tools demonstrates their socket extractor lineup. He explains that these tools are designed to remove 100% rounded nuts, bolts, and even studs, unlike conventional twist sockets which are tapered and only bite at the top. GripEdge sockets feature a non-tapered, straight-cut design, providing immediate and bidirectional bite along the entire fastener surface. The demonstration involves hammering a GripEdge socket onto a severely rounded Grade 8 bolt, tightening and loosening it with a ratchet, and then using a patented foreign object removal rod to easily extract the bolt from the socket. This allows for removal of a bolt, even if you do not have a replacement, in order to get the job done.
Goal: Show the effectiveness of GripEdge socket extractors in removing severely rounded fasteners.
Tools and materials
- GripEdge Socket Extractor — Removing rounded nuts, bolts, and studs
- Hammer — Driving the socket onto the rounded fastener
- Ratchet — Tightening and loosening the socket once engaged
- Severely Rounded Grade 8 Bolt — Demonstrating the extractor's capability on a challenging fastener
