Before beginning any construction, understand the structural limitations of a typical house wall. A house framed with wood studs is not designed to bear the weight of a heavy paver structure like a patio or steps. Building directly against it can cause structural damage. Additionally, moisture trapped between a solid paver structure and the house siding can lead to wood rot over time. The solution is to create an independent support wall for the paver structure and maintain an air gap between this structure and the house wall.
