I’ll let you guys write the caption for this one…..#framing #builder #deck

What happens here

Begin by positioning the decking board securely onto the substructure joist, ensuring it is properly aligned and flush with any adjacent boards or edges. Take an exterior-grade wood screw, typically a star-drive (Torx) or square-drive screw for better grip and reduced cam-out, and place its tip onto the desired fastening point on the decking board. Using an impact driver equipped with the correct bit (e.g., T25 for common deck screws), carefully drive the screw down through the decking board and into the joist below. Apply steady pressure and ensure the screw head is driven flush with the surface of the decking or slightly below, creating a clean finish. Repeat this process for each necessary fastening point along the board, typically two screws per joist crossing.

Goal: Secure the decking board firmly in place

Tools and materials

  • Decking Board — The primary surface material being installed
  • Impact Driver — To drive the wood screws into the decking and substructure
  • Substructure Joist — The structural support to which the decking board is attached
  • Exterior Wood Screws — To secure the decking board to the substructure
