What happens here

This video provides a detailed explanation of the OS (Overspray) control valve found on the Apollo 7700 HVLP spray gun. It covers the valve's function, its historical necessity for older turbine systems, the mechanical method of adjustment, and the recommended usage with modern HVLP turbine systems that feature integrated pressure control.

So today we're going to be talking about the OS control valve on the Apollo 7700 gun now I'm here in Apollo in Vista California and I actually learned something new today I actually got to see the OS what it's actually doing inside and I started asking you questions about it and you know come to find out I've probably not been using it correctly so John can you tell us what the OS valve does um control valve and it's used when I would use it and when I wouldn't use it yeah absolutely so the OS or overspray control is basically a little device that we built into the top of the spray head to help you control the air pressure from your turbine system traditionally turbines have not had any way to control the air pressure or vary the speed of the motor and so you were able to you weren't able to reduce the amount of pressure so if you were spraying a very thin material you'd have to spray it with the full P pressure which would give you a little bit more overspray and a little wasted more wasted material so by having this little device in the in the gun we can actually restrict the air flow through the spray gun and be able it's kind of like a cheater valve on your compressed air guns right so it's a way to kind of more fine-tune it uh so we really invented this for turbines that don't have pressure control on the machine itself most of our turbines now Apollo systems either digitally or analog somehow control the the motor speed which ultimately controls the pressure so when you're using this with the Precision 5 or any of the Precision systems or any of our Power Systems you're going to just back this all the way out so basically counterclockwise until it stops and just leave it there like a blanking clap because it's always better to adjust your pressure on the machine than it is through the spray gun right because you don't want the machine just running away creating a lot of extra pressure that you don't need and you're bleeding that off and the Machine is still wearing out so by reducing the pressure through the machine I actually slow down the motor reduce the Heat and add lot more life to the motor on the machine itself but if you don't have that ability and your machine only has an onoff switch then this is the only way you have choice to be able to control your air so way this works is I screw this I can slowly reduce this down and as I do this is your air passage that's coming through the gun here and as I reduce as I increase this screw it's sending this plunger into the air passageway and slowly restricting the air flow so you're not only reducing the pressure but you're also reducing the volume of the air through the spray gun as well which is important to do both so I can use this as a way to sort of cheat my air pressure and reduce the air pressure through a fixed powered turbine system but again for most of our systems that we have nowadays uh most of them all have variable speed control on them and so we just back it all the way out and we're more or less using it as a blanking cap so I I use I have two units I got a a Precision five and I got a Precision six so pretty much I can actually remove that put a cap on it and um and I'd actually be better off than actually actually using it then maybe yeah you wouldn't need to use it at all because remember with your precision machine you have the control to be able to um reduce that pressure to an accuracy of onet of a PSI so that's going to be way more accurate than trying to reduce it through um a mechanical means of reducing pressure through the gun so there you have it that's the OS control valve the overspray control valve you know what it's used for how to use it if you got any questions or comments you know about that valve just leave it down in the comment section below we'll try to answer them as soon as we can see right here next time on paint live TV out
