How to prune overgrown fruit trees WAY BACK!
What happens here
Begin pruning the apple tree, starting with smaller branches using the Stihl GTA 26 handheld saw. Focus on removing crossing limbs and branches growing through the center of the tree to create an open structure. For larger branches, switch to the Milwaukee Fuel Hatchet for more efficient cutting. Make cuts as close as possible to the main trunk or branch to allow for proper healing, but avoid cutting into the main trunk itself. After heavy pruning, the tree will appear drastically cut back, but this is a necessary step for rejuvenation.
Goal: Remove overgrown, diseased, and crossing branches to open the tree canopy.
