What happens here

This video demonstrates how to fix a leaky outdoor water faucet, specifically a frost-free hose bib. The first step is to shut off the water supply using the meter key. Then, open the hose bib to drain any remaining water. Next, remove the hose bib by loosening the back nut with an adjustable wrench and spinning the hose bib counter-clockwise. Once removed, replace the old washer inside the hose bib with a new one. Reinstall the hose bib, tighten the back nut, and tighten the handle with a Phillips head screwdriver. Finally, turn the water supply back on and test for leaks.

hey folks that fix it guy here and today we're going to be fixing a hose bib that will not shut off okay you can see that this continuously leaks so we're going to go ahead i'm going to take this apart and i'm going to show you how to change the washer out hopefully that fixes our issue so come along let's get to fixing [Music] [Applause] okay so next you just want to shut the water off you can see somebody's totally dug this out which is pretty awesome so just take your meter key a little tough so now that the water's shut off we're going to go ahead and we're just going to drain all this water out and we'll take it apart okay so now we've got that we've got the water drained we're just gonna take a crescent wrench and we're gonna go ahead and spin this off counterclockwise you just wanna grab this back nut right here the nut closest to the body and then it should just be able to spin off after that or not seems like it's pretty hard to to go there wow we're going to go ahead and just keep spinning and that's going to pop off and then it just pulls out this is a deep frost free bib okay so you can see right there this is looking a little shot it's rounded off pretty good but we're just gonna go ahead and we're gonna swap that out and this should be good to go okay so it's a little toasty out here today i'm just trying to find some shade and um this is lincoln products it's assorted flat bib washers and screws right so this right here if we open this up you're gonna see there's all different size washers different size screws this little kit works out really awesome so we're just gonna go ahead we're gonna take this off here it's gonna require flathead screwdriver and then we'll find the right size washer to match it up like sometimes you have to to hold them and really they don't want to come off oh okay well that sprained out of there so sometimes these things just don't want to come apart like that just came apart so what we're trying to do is just hold on to this and the the whole thing just kind of came apart in my hands and you just want to hold that and unscrew that and i have to pull out my uh everyday carries here i really want to be careful not jacking this up right i want to be able to use it again last thing i want to be doing is changing hose bibs right now but my little everyday carries these are those little cannipex six inch pliers i had a subscriber reach out to me and he was like it's not canipex it's cannipex it's the way the germans pronounce it i said okay i'm sorry i'm pronouncing it all wrong and so now that just screws out there very easy once you or does it no it doesn't screw out there very easy look at that that's a bummer okay hold it a little bit different just don't want to don't want to mangle this right okay looks like it's coming apart yeah and you can see that i'm starting to crush that in a little bit i don't want to do that that is man i don't want to do that i don't want to do that this is not a good design all right if i've got to take this monstrous screw out of here this is not a good design usually brass on brass stuff works pretty well this is uh not being a fan but we got it so we're gonna have to try to straighten that back out a little bit but you can see right here that now i can just remove this little in piece right here and i can just remove this old washer that has shroomed out there so we have that little washer right there that shroomed out and we'll just match it up i actually don't have anything in my arsenal that's that long this is like double the length of any of these this kit doesn't work for everything but this particular is a zero zero quarter inch and this is the same size so we're just able to match that up just chuck this old one this is where that sits in there and we'll just clean that out a little bit just get all that debris out of there just don't want any of that excess little rubber bean in there perfect so then this little piece right here we'll take the two zeros we'll flip them down we'll push that inside there and you can see it just sits right down in there you want to get the whole thing looking good looking even across it make sure it's the whole way in there we'll take this piece this sits right on top of here put that long winded screw back in there i don't really know if that screw needs to be that long but that's what was in it so i'm gonna put it back hopefully this doesn't have to come out for like another 20 years all right that's good that's hooked up that's tightened down now let's see about kind of straightening that out a little bit just kind of take this and see if we can just kind of bend that back out a little bit looks like it should work you just take this once this is looking good push this down on the spring and just it kind of clicks right in place there this just kind of helps it seat right there and we're going to rock and roll let's put her back in place okay so then we'll take this just get it started just go straight back make sure that little washer's on there that's what's gonna seal that right there you get this started and remember this is gonna have to screw in a little bit before this part screws in so once that's screwed in this is screwed in that hooked up just take our adjustable jaw give it a little final tighten and we're setting good there now that's good to rock and roll the only thing is this handle is a little bit loose so i'm gonna go ahead i'm gonna put uh oh yeah it's real loose i could actually take that out by hand so i'm gonna go ahead i'm gonna actually tighten that up as well and then we're gonna give it a test right the initial test is right away it's already stopped leaking the excess water which is great let's see if it holds up so we're just going to go ahead we're going to tighten this handle like i said a little bit loose okay that's good and tightened up all right so we're gonna go ahead we're going to turn the water back on remember lefty loosey open it you just want to open it a little bit crack it just let it crack when you start hearing water come out that's great then just let it go until you don't hear water coming out anymore and now you know it's filled the lines going water's moving it's good to always keep something open whenever you're doing this and then just go ahead and open it the rest of the way okay so we come back over here one more time for the moment of truth you can see that the water's on shut her down and water stopped dripping so that was repairing a frost-free hose bib much like a regular hose bib you can change just the washer in these things you don't always have to get a brand new one like a lot of plumbers out there are suggesting these days okay that's a simple little fix it's gonna last a long time as long as everything else is still in good shape well just replace the washer okay i i see it too much like it's just too easy you can shut your water off have this job done sometimes literally in like 10 minutes it's not hard i promise if i can do it you can do it i really hope this video helps if you could please subscribe to the channel click the like button we're just trying to help and i really hope that we're doing that for people if you like us please share us look us up on facebook i've got a diy group and i really just enjoy helping people thank you very
