What happens here

This video provides a detailed, step-by-step guide for the pouring and finishing of concrete flatwork, such as a sidewalk or garage apron. Building upon a previously prepared site, the project covers key stages including concrete delivery, spreading, leveling using screeds and bull floats, applying a concrete retarder for extended workability, cutting control joints, and achieving a broom finish for traction. The instructions emphasize teamwork, proper techniques, and timing for optimal results.

[Music] we're sorry yeah [Music] get a load of concrete it's like dying Bob you only get so much time to port and finish it's old [Music] all right we're back and today we're going in detail on how to pour a concrete sidewalk garage slab garage apron even a driveway because we're talking about flat work and what you need to know what tools you need to know how what kind of concrete did works the best for those applications and we're going to be hooking up with two guys Ron and Juan these guys are absolute professionals and then we're going to be visiting with their team Terry and Alex out on the jobsite and we're going to be finishing this project today so without waste any more time let's start pouring some concrete [Music] so if you guys are just tuning in there is a part one to this video where we go ahead endeavor on the preparation work and now in this video we're gonna be hearing more depth by step breakdown [Music] picking off migraine all right that's it that's a custom Bluegreen job [Music] hey up there again good good didn't say here in about another 20 minutes like that the line snapped on that concrete apron and that's the elevation that Juan needs to go to with this concrete in that area so that he can make sure to get everything lined up with the rest of the sidewalk so now watch right there what he's doing is he's lifting the mesh off from the ground even though in the beginning the metas and I'm chairs are elevated off from the ground as they're pouring the concrete they're actually using the concrete to elevate the neck to get the mesh more centered within the mass of the concrete [Music] Braun's shoving the concrete down into the cracks because he doesn't want to have any air voids or pockets underneath that concrete because if we don't get full compaction or connection with the ground beneath it in years down the road that can create weakness in that area so he's just making sure to get the concrete rammed in there good okay straight through your wheelbarrow [Music] I probably don't have to say this for most of you guys but these guys work really well together and when you get on a team where everybody knows what the other person is doing they're not all doing the same thing they've got different components and are working together I mean it's pretty cool when you get on a great team like this no are we gonna make doing the rest or are we arrival well sure what we do in the video when we run short on mud right what do you do stop in what you're gonna walk by monopoly I've seen that out he'll run to get his puffed up for there you can pull it up so I'm guessing a lot of you guys recognize these guys from our video on how to pour concrete stairs but in case you missed that one the guy in the gray shirt his name is Ron and he's been doing concrete for over 35 years one is in the orange shirt and been doing it almost long let's go around we're in good time get on that brought you a lot I got this a little date one on there before you go you got a two so one is starting to spray a product called day one is a concrete retarder onto the surface and this will allow him to do the finish troweling and bring the cream to the top and smooth it out [Music] [Applause] if you're looking for a lot of details on concrete finishing I'm going to recommend people check out the video we did on how to pour concrete stairs Juan watts alex through step by step how to finish the concrete stairs in the process in that video is the same as in this video it's all about timing and there's a lot of technical details in that video that will help you up [Applause] [Music] one more sotiria gotta ask the question why didn't you just use the shoot put a shoot extender on it instead of the manual labor with the wheelbarrow we could afford another yeah most people would put another shoot on so right what Ron is doing is he's lining up his string line over on that side he doesn't have a board on that side so we've got to just visually just making sure he's lined up and he's using the board on this side and listen all right alex is slumping it in so that it's settled in play now Ron just to give you guys concrete arts is the name of his company he does countertops and stamped concrete high high-end stuff he pretty much has got experience in all the different types of concrete you can do and they're not all the same like what you do for stamped concrete is different than what you do for a structural than stairs and everything right on color your car your factory so what we're seeing is the basics and then on top of that once you get take it to the next level like for concrete countertops and things like that there's other steps that are involved all right good all right so what you see is Terry is using what's called the walking cutter and that's the same edger that the other guys are using in the hand form but now this one's on a stick so he can you can see Terry's doing heel the toe heel to toe some people use this freehand I use a straight edge keeps it straighter Jen free antics they've got a mark here gonna mark there you're free handed try to hit your mark okay okay so you can see where Terry's talking about he's got a mark right here he's had a mark on the wall and he's lining up between the two one 300 straight that's freehand but free and from somebody with how many years of experience so that's not really freehand like us hey should I do a free hand once Terry sure no because they need make me fix it no I actually want to point out what we're talking about with this heel-to-toe action as he's pushing forward he's using the heel of the trowel as soon as he reverses direction starts to pull towards himself he uses the toe of the trowel that way he doesn't get any excess material that's pretty damn deep KITT I want you to look at mine and see if I can go over it with Bryan for the final because I don't have one this peep unless you got a hand one I can hit it with once I'm done [Music] I gotta why is that surely mine hey thanks a lot you're a hell of a driver a lot of pricks out there hmm are you saying come off this corner Oh like Taylor so it may look like Terry's using the trowel to finish off the top but that's not actually what he's doing he's actually searching for high and low spots in the concrete and evening it out then once he gets that done it'll go to the broom finish which you'll see in just a minute yeah you taught me call him back when you're done you step for me so how long is a banner on since you since this kind of crew was part about 45 minutes and your brooming yeah be an hour so is it necessary to go by time like stopwatch time or do you go by feel and consistency of the college by filling out setting up never never by time every time it's different every four you know I got I got three ounces of a daleville retarder in this thing so you can imagine if we didn't have retarder in it we'd be pounding our cuts in you know this way it gives you a little more time real nice so why are you just finishing the edges first and not brooming the entire piece grown this is a drill drying the Sun there ah so if I pull it it's gonna leave me a streak like it did to me getting there so I'm just trying to do with this first and then maybe I'll just pull up cross and be done with it yeah it's can I get a can I other way they got a push and pull and then all this stuff gets to roughing trick of the trade there you gotta add your there you had to hit this a little bit with your trick to the trade hey you're a JIT I got my I got I'm good stroke it all right I'm gonna clean up all our crap leave neck give me it's all good I hear good all right we got everywhere the brooming isn't meant to hide flaws it's to add traction this is a critical stage of the concrete if you leave the concrete smooth as soon as it gets wet it's almost like trying to walk on ice adding just this little bit of traction to it these grooves makes a huge difference so don't mistake grooming for a cover-up it's meant to save you from planning on your butt all right you guys well that's it this video is done I hope it's given you enough confidence that if you need to go out and pour a concrete slab you at least have the basics down so you guys tell me what's next what do you want to see job site videos how-to videos other kinds of videos like tool reviews going to two conventions and things like that whatever you guys want put it in the comments down below now if you are a subscriber do me a favor and hit the bowel notification because that's how you guys will know if I've released a new video they won't tell you just because you're a subscriber it's kind of weird if you're not a subscriber do me a favor hit the
