Prepare Site and Position First Beam
At 0:00 in
Honestly, if you cant even lift a beam with just your own man power, you should probably just quit..
What happens here
At the beginning of the video, workers are seen near a residential building with a partially constructed wooden deck. A large, long wooden beam is maneuvered into place, ready for lifting. A mechanical lifting device, similar to a drywall hoist or specialized beam jack, is positioned centrally beneath the beam to provide mechanical assistance during the lift. Workers also position ladders to facilitate access and guidance for the beam as it is raised. The beam has 'PREMIER OUTDOOR LIVING' written on its side, identifying the contractor responsible for the build.
Goal: The construction crew prepares the work area on a partially built deck foundation. A large wooden beam, intended as a primary structural element, is brought into position and a mechanical lift is set up to support and raise it.
Tools and materials
- Heavy Timber Beam — The primary structural component for the outdoor living structure
- Ladders — Providing elevated access for workers to guide and secure the beam
- Mechanical Beam Lift/Hoist — To mechanically lift and support heavy wooden beams during installation, reducing manual labor and increasing safety
- Safety Glasses — Eye protection during construction activities
- Work Gloves — Protecting hands during handling of materials
