(11,476 characters)hey folks that fix-it guy here so today I want to talk to you about tools so I've compiled a list of 18 different tools that I think every homeowner should have kind of like just a homeowner starter kit if you will it consists of things I kind of broke out my tool bag and said what are the essentials that somebody would use in their house for homeownership there's certain things you want to have and you're gonna be happy that you have them really all in all I think I did a good job at consolidating what somebody should have right away we're looking at the overall scope of the home and this is my list so I'll walk you through what I'm using and last but not least about tools is I have the I have a very eclectic tool collection I you know I'm not sponsored I mean anybody for any tools you know these are just things that I've used that I like that I've collected over time you know I if I get a good deal at a garage sale well I'm picking that tool up or if I find something that's on sale and it looks like it's pretty quality being well I'm gonna try it out so my thing is like hey look around like old tools are awesome man any kind of hand tool is I love it I am always fascinated by people that make tools I'm fascinated with the way tools are made what tools are used for you know I blows my mind when people make a tool for something specific and it works out awesome and I have a lot of specialty tools that at some point I'll be reviewing as well but for right now like these basics I think will really help anyone as a homeowner so come along and we're not fixing anything today except for maybe your tool collection [Music] okay so I found myself in my laundry room today because my I was gonna do this in my garage but one of my neighbors is mowing his lawn and he hasn't mowed it in a long time and so his lawn mowers going like uh-huh all right uh-huh it gotta be insanely annoying so here we are with this lovely set up right here first off this is this hacksaw actually comes with different blades you could you could chop a tree down with the saw and it allows you to do a lot of things a little bit heavier than some some other hack saws that I have had or I have and it's pretty awesome this actually my wife had in her home starter kit when I met her like this was in her first time tools and I thought it was awesome she chopped her first Christmas tree down with this and I like that she's very adventurous that way you know I wasn't going to put a drill in there but I feel like this is a good first time power tool everybody needs power tools in the day and age of power tools you got to have one and starting with a drill that's where it's at you have a drill you're gonna need some drill bits like really I just go with I like Ryobi stuff I know that some people don't and think oh it's crappy product whatever I can tell you I've had these tools I've had this for a long time now it's been well over 10 plus years everything's still going strong it all rocks it's my personal opinion with that you're also gonna need bits for you're gonna need some screwdriver bits these coming out like just these little small things come you can get a little variety pack in a tin for you know ten bucks and there's just all different kinds flathead Phillip head square in a hex head start it I recommend you know getting something made Walt sells a little pack whatever whatever like I said wherever you can get them and they're actually pretty good that's what I say you also will want a set of Allen wrenches Allen wrenches come in handy when you're working on faucets when you're trying to take a faucet handle off you're going to need these around your house also we're looking at needlenose pliers these are good for grabbing things out of tight spaces they're also good for clipping wire if you need to holding on to small little intricate pieces something along those lines you trust me when I tell you if you don't have them you're gonna want them at some point you got a six in one screwdriver you know many of different brands varieties this just happened to actually come in a set with these three channel locks and you know this it's just awesome like it has a it's like a number one Philips a number two Phillips a quarter-inch flathead a three sixteenths flathead and then it has a 5/16 nut driver and a quarter-inch nut driver so I mean these it's just awesome man like really I really enjoy these particular screwdrivers they're just so versatile so handy you definitely want a screwdriver in your kit I mean you have a drill with with driver bits but sometimes you don't need to go full power and it's just nice to go hand power plus having the two different size nut drivers on here is awesome okay and so the next we'll go to the the tongue groove pliers of the slip joint pliers small 426 is like I said this whole thing came in a pack it was less than 40 bucks and these little babies I use them for everything I mean they are awesome you can tighten up so many little things the four 20s they're super versatile I'm this little repertoire is my jam like this I use these all the time the for the 440s too I mean these are they're big they're awesome let's just go to everybody should have a tape measure a tape measure is a big thing I like a 25-foot tape measure I have ones by Stanley Milwaukee just different stuff I like this because it's got a magnet on the end and it is able to grab something with a little bit wider of an angle like these little you see it looks like kind one of those shapes from it looks like one of those shapes from Space Invaders just so you know just a cool little I don't know I mean that's just what it looks like to me is this a little space invaders man no thing going on all around just you just want a good quality tape measure doesn't matter what it is you know I'll put links down below in the in the description but wherever you get them from like you just kind of as I say this is you just want basics here these are like my these are my basics and this is doesn't matter what brand you go with you just kind of want to have some of these tools around so these two wall wrench it the one thing I like about this is especially on this little six inch adjustable jaw wrench it goes wide wider than most little six-inch wrenches go and so it kind of sold me and it came in a two pack and I haven't been disappointed with either one of these wrenches they they've taken a little bit of a beating there's a little bit of play there but you know whatever it's they've served their purpose for me and I'm I'm good with that like this one's still pretty pretty tight that other ones just a little bit loose but it's still not bad it still is serving its purpose so I've liked it it's kind of hard to find a super a nice little small wrench that opens really wide and also you know if somebody else has a wrench that opens really wide that's small like this or smaller than this that they like that is still like this compact like let me know put some comments below I would love to check something else out I'm always a fan another thing is vice grips you never know when you just have to actually really hold get something to be able to like clamp onto something and hold on to it right like these things are awesome this way where you just you know can grab something you know really clamp on to it and get it to where it's really not gonna move at all it's pretty good these come in all kinds of handy even if you had to use them as a you know like a makeshift clamp to hold something in place what you drill something I'm they're really all around this is a very versatile little tool here as well and then just need a good quality hammer it doesn't need to be anything fancy this bad boy is a one-hand craftsman like I like a lot of other tools that you know I like I said I have a variety of a lot of stuff this has been a pretty good hammer for me fiberglass handle you know a lot of people tell you go solid wood different things you know I beat on a lot of stuff with this and it works pretty well for me just a good claw hammer right like that's this is just what you would need you're able to pry nails out you're able to beat nails in you're able to pry on stuff I use a hammer like a lot it's a very essential tool I mean you can't go wrong there any utility knife you need a utility knife you never know Andy there's these things are just versatile they cut you know you're able to cut out caulking you're able to and the other thing is it usually comes with some blades inside it's pretty nice this is a fourteen and one painters tool I don't really use everything else including the bottle opener like I mean I guess I have before but I haven't really used a lot of these other things I've used this little thing to actually pry out a nail a time or two it comes with a flathead and usually a Phillips I don't know where that is at the moment but this edge right here I use that a lot to take caulk out of toilet joints this thing is it's a super stiff and man it really just cleans up cult things it cleans up a lot of stuff nice I hear a little while I'm actually going to do a recaulking video and you'll see me use this to tear off the caulk line on my toilet because guys peed on the front of toilets fan and after a while like it gets ugly and nasty and you need to swap that caulk out so it's typically what I do and then the last thing is a level you always want to have a level for hanging a picture making sure like your stove when you put it in is leveled making sure if you're changing out a vanity countertop that it's leveled this is the basic tools setup I like for homeowners all right so that'll do it for my tool review I really hope this helps first-time homebuyers homeowners that just really are looking to enhance their tool collection or maybe not realize they hey that's a great thing I actually need one of those there are tools like that out there that maybe you just haven't thought about yet or you say oh maybe mine's bad I need a new one like I I tend to not buy oh sorry my mustache is a little bit this thing is getting a little out of control that's another thing should I keep this mustache my wife says no but I really I kinda I have a cool project that I wanted to do with my mustache and so I've just been letting it grow and grow as including my eyebrows these things are insane they're quite awesome my friend says I'm like one of those guys from dune I think it's awesome so I I don't know I think maybe I'm gonna put up a pole and see if people want me to keep my mustache or not I don't know I think it's a it's been fun people definitely look at you a little bit different whenever you have a stache growing like this especially when it's starting to look like it like a carpet piece in front of my mouth like people would tend to be like you eat with that thing so Oh anyway I really hope that I really hope that this tool review kind of helped in some way to just give you an example of what I use the tools for and why I picked the tools to go in this I guess tool starter kit if you will or a new homeowner starter kit I really think it'll help if you could subscribe to my channel click the like button share with your friends I really would appreciate it I think that it's a quality set especially to start out if you don't have anything and hopefully you'll be fixing your own stuff in no time at all thank you and have a good night
