What happens here

Begin by inserting the threaded end of one screw eye hook, which will serve as your 'driver hook,' into the chuck of a cordless drill. Tighten the drill chuck securely to ensure the hook is held firmly and won't slip during operation. Next, take the screw eye hook you intend to install (the 'target hook') and loop its eye through the eye of the driver hook already in the drill. This linkage allows the drill's rotation to transfer to the target hook. Position the pointed end of the target hook against the desired spot on the wooden surface. With the drill set to a low speed and forward rotation, gently engage the trigger. Apply slight, steady pressure to help the target hook bite into the wood. As the driver hook spins, it will rotate the target hook, screwing it into the surface. Continue until the target hook is securely installed to your desired depth. Once the target hook is in place, reverse the drill's direction to carefully unscrew and remove the driver hook from the installed target hook.

Goal: Securely install a screw eye hook into a wooden surface using a drill.

Tools and materials

  • Cordless Drill — Powering the rotation to screw in the hook
  • Screw Eye Hook — Held by the drill chuck to rotate the hook being installed
  • Wooden Surface — The material into which the hook is being screwed (e.g., ceiling, beam)
