(17,158 characters)watch they'll just follow me right on over here to the new Paddock of grass come on now that's what I call Stony Ridge farmer welcome back to not farming of course we're farming today so today we're gonna go out we've got some chores to handle we got to go take care of the cows make sure everything's cool there we gotta check on the mobile Chicken Coop which got raided by Foxes the other day very very sad situation lost 26 chickens in about two hours unbelievable it was like a fox all you can eat chicken buffet out here in the yard not cool but the first thing we had to do this morning I got up and I'm meal prepping a little bit I'll show you guys what I'm cooking for today's meal for lunch and supper and then we're gonna get out and get some work done so let's have some fun on the Stoney Ridge [Music] I ain't afraid to get the job done I ain't afraid alive times like this [Music] all right folks welcome back to the channel welcome back to the farm again all around us here is 150 acre first generation farm called the Stoney Ridge Farm we have a few projects in the works right now I've got Big T the tymt 1104 hooked to the Batwing it's sitting over in the shade we will start that tractor up and then we're going to head over to the other side of the farm but I want to show you what I'm cooking so I do well I do 100 of the cooking now back when I had missed Tony Ridge living here I probably did about 90 percent of the cooking and I do meal prep so this is meal prep for today and tomorrow I'll show you guys what I'm cooking some farm fresh sausage and some beef from our friends at our Wyoming life out in Wyoming this is our meal prep right here for today and this is some black beans and rice and tomatoes that I canned last year we're getting ready to get into canning season again so we're letting that warm up a little bit while we let our meat warm up a little bit then here's what we have here so this is some sausage from my buddy George I did a video over at his place not too long ago this is one pound of sausage and one pound of beef this is mild pork sausage this will go into that and it will simmer and make ourselves a wonderful meal so that's what we're cooking part sausage and I put a little cayenne pepper in there too because I like it spicy and then we've got some farm fresh tomatoes and stuff in there too so it's going to be absolutely delicious I cook this pretty dry in other words it'll almost be totally dry there won't be any liquid when we pour it over into here and that is meal prep for today and tomorrow pretty much that's enough food for me for about a day and a half now even though I am out here and I'm doing farm work and I'm doing all this outside stuff I still make it a point to go to the gym and try to live and or eat healthy so I've been growing micro greens let's just show you guys a little bit so this is micro Greens in this jar right here and I've got a whole smorgasbord Smorgasbord of uh seeds right here for micro greens these are from Handy Pantry and I'll post a link to them so I've got some peas sprouting right here in the fridge right here what do we have we have alfalfa sprouts so and a little beef that I cooked yesterday gosh we've got garlic we've got shallots got all kinds of stuff I'm a foodie I love my food so without further Ado let's grab a cup of coffee and head over and move the cows this doesn't take very long and we can actually do it in our flip-flops that's pretty cool so we're gonna be working in a cab tractor today there's no use in me wearing a bunch of hot clothes it's going to be 95 degrees hot we're gonna hop on the Honda and run over there real quick and move the cows from the current Paddock that they're in into another Paddock which will give them access to shade shade is super important as you'll see here in just a minute the cows will be bunched up together even though it's early morning it's still fairly warm outside and the cows kind of find Shelter by bunching up together and that helps them to stay cool and keeps the Flies off of them a little bit more so we're going to zip over other side of the farm and check the couch this is Big T it's a t-y-m-t 1104 a lot of people have never heard of tym tractors t1104 it's 110 horsepower to the PTO shaft tractor well 110 horsepower I think it's like 90 something to the PTO this is what you call a PTO Chef there is a toe a tongue right here and this is the woods batwing very very cool awesome machine we're going to be using here in just a second Woods VW 15.5 this will cut up to three inch saplings awesome awesome tool I have the aircraft tires these are solid aircraft tires These Wings will fold up for getting through Gates then fold back down 15.5 means that we're at about 16 feet of width that severely cut down the time I spent mowing I was mowing with a six foot cutter on the farm and in order to mow something like this five acre field would take about five hours typically would take an hour to mow an acre on the farm to do a good job at it and now it takes me about 20 minutes or maybe even 15 minutes to mow an acre so we'll fire this guy up this is again is the tymt 1104 Big Daddy all right there's Tammy the Donkey and looks like the cows have made their way through this Paddock pretty good here's all the cows morning guys good morning all right so we're gonna take the cows from there they're gonna come right through this little gate right here I go open another gate over here so we'll go ahead and take that loose we're gonna drive through so the cows will have access to this Paddock that Paddock and this next pad dington right there so they'll have access to that grass now will they know to come through the gate and all the way through into here we shall see what I'm doing here is what I call no Back Fence so in other words the cows don't have a fence behind them to keep them from going back to the old area that they just grazed no Back Fence what I'll do is I'll take this and wrap it around this is a poly braid or poly wire I'll take this and wrap it around and I'll hang it on the post right over here hey girls folks this ain't rocket science this is regenerative farming what we're doing here is we're allowing the cows to mimic with the great herds of bison and wildebeest have done for years and years on the Great Plains and on the Serengeti in other words we can't mob the cows threw if we give them access to this entire pasture we can't mob them we need to move them and MOB them so that they mow now what that means is move mob mow they eat one-third they trample one-third and they leave one third so there's always plenty of grass for the cows to graze when they come back through and what we need to do is think about this and the cows were grazing here about four days ago you can see lighter colored stems like this grass right here this is a solar panel right here that's a solar panel all this is solar panels to absorb that energy from the Sun using photosynthesis which builds more grass which builds better root structure the cows come and graze it off they poop out the carbon it's a carbonaceous machine it just keeps cranking carbon out and feeding the soil grazing animals are an integral part of every ecosystem we're mimicking a grazing Animal by mowing over here in just a little bit folks this is a mirror Fountain 3390 frost-free watering setup the cows push this blue ball down you see that little blue ball and they get to the water that keeps the bugs and mosquitoes out of the water keeps the water clean and keeps it from freezing in the wintertime we're just going to open a gate real quick come on girls oh come on there you go so it's all about routine they know the gates open they're into this routine every day twice a day in the summer we move the cows again mimicking with the great herds did on the Serengeti you see right here this is trampled pretty hard that's okay it's recovering this is recovering they'll be back over here in 14 days come on guys cows learn you they learn your voice they learn what you wear they learn your hat they learn everything watch they'll just follow me right on over here to the new Paddock of grass come on where one cow goes all the rest have to be Isn't that cool just a line of cows coming right on through come on girls come on now there's a water tank up there and there's a water tank down here the cows are gonna know to come right into this Paddock they'll start grazing immediately knocking the tops out of this grass and we're gonna go down we'll open up this section right here real quick for them to drink from this water or the other water isn't it cool how they develop this routine and every day they all know exactly what's going to go on and they know the routine now does it make it hard for me to go on a vacation yes but what's most important building my land or going to Disneyland building my land Building my farm it gives me something to to live for really I mean that's what this is all about let's go over here I'll show you how we open a gate to the next water while we're walking notice multiple species of grasses multiple species of pasture this is the salad bar for the cows this is that salad bar beef that we hear so much about I see a little milkweed in here ceresi lespedeza Red Top Clover purple top Clover daisies Fescue whitetop ladino Clover just so much so much of a variety of forage even some small saplings right in here this is the water that's the furthest from the house we are nearly a mile from where the water is pumped out of the well simply put we'll take this guy loose hook him right there and that provides an opening from this pasture to the water this is the 3390 I was talking about sometimes there's a bolt we'll stick that bolt back in there and screw that in that holds this ball back for the smaller calves to get their nose down in there and drink so if you've got really really small calves the mirror Fount has a setup for you so you don't want very small calves to have to push that ball down it's a little bit too hard for them so if we've got little calves that's what we'll do and most of the cows here the last calf was born about a week ago so they're strong enough to push the water down listen to the sound that's what these girls do they're always eating frantically eating girls and boys morning good morning everybody good morning these are all calves that were born this year that's our new bull Donnie good stuff every cow out here that's old enough to birth babies is birthing babies that's Susie right there and who's this and who are you I said I'm too hungry to be Petty no feeling on earth like making 50 animals happy getting them breakfast so the cows will have access to this Paddock this is about an acre and a half that Paddock is about two and a half acres and the other one is about three acres so they'll have access to a lot of grass today and shade when it's hot like this it's super important that your cows have access to shade imagine being a big black animal sitting out here in the hot hot sun we've got to take care of them let's go get on the tractor guys I'm watching Mirrors I'm watching this mirror to watch that edge of the mower and then I'm watching that mirror to watch that edge of the mower and then I'm watching you right here foreign [Music] why aren't you bailing this for hey because it's garbage it's not good hay guys good hey this is what of all of our pastors start out as these are just native grasses weeds brush Briars all sorts of stuff that just comes up now once we mow it it looks awesome that helps to feed the land and eventually that'll help to heal the land it'll put more biologic material down but the real key to this is going to be getting the cows over here that's probably three years away right now you can see my loaders kind of in the way a little bit it's a tight squeeze in between these pine trees and these are Pines that we planted back in the day that is a second generation loblolly pine there's another one we're getting ready to pass here be careful as we Cruise right by that want to get about six inches from it but we don't want to hit it it'll mow that tree right down that bat wing is a beast so we can't mow it for hay and this is referred to by the USDA as green manure okay so in other words this is just being used as manure on the pasture so we're just mowing it feeding the land mow it feed the land mow it feed the Land There is a lot of broom sedge out here broom sedge is an indicator of poor soil health and also an indicator of pH in other words a pH on this land is right around four not conducive for growing good high quality forage for your animals not conducive for growing good high quality hey this mess do you see that you guys see this there's a Timber crew working over here and this mess was dumped on my land and they didn't clean it up now I want your opinion I don't want to make a neighbor angry but I also the timber crew knew better so why did they leave that I don't know I've also found going in right hand circles versus left hand circles you can change your direction on the Batwing mower it seems to do better making right hand turns for me now for you it may be different than running a Batwing but for me making right hand turn seems to be a little bit easier and your PTO shaft doesn't get bound up because when you're making a sharp turn you put that PTO Chef which is spinning back there in a bit of a bind you don't want to bind it up because it'll go pop pop pop and it'll destroy your equipment [Music] we got a lot of mowing to do and what you can't see right here guys is water okay I'll show you this is a wet area this whole bottom down here you can tell is a flat plane it's almost a flood plain and we'll be going through water here in just a second it was actually standing water right there that's something that you really can't see from any footage other than right here so I cannot mow this until it gets drier but I did mow it last year you can see Cattails out there folks you can see we're getting a start on this pasture I think it's probably going to take me around two two and a half hours to get this mode there's a lot of twists and turns and a lot of Hazards the whole bottom is basically filled with water this is a flood plain area not a wetland but a flood plain guys we'll get you some awesome footage here just cruising around the pasture you can see from the Drone footage as I back off of the tractor the scale of this pasture this is about 25 acres that will be fenced in in the near future but not this year probably three or four years down the road once I get the field rehabilitated in the set and ready for the cows awesome get some high quality forage over here let's boogie down get the job done we've got to mow four sections in this pasture [Music] folks if you like this kind of content please hit that like button subscribe to the channel I'd love to have you back here this is just the daily stuff that goes on here on the Stoney Ridge Farm in the summertime not a lot of major projects just maintaining and keeping things up and we're building a little fence later this week [Music] we're just tidying up the ends right now it's looking absolutely gorgeous this took longer than I thought it always takes longer than you think it's gonna take let's go ahead and we'll disengage our PTO right here we'll actually tap that we'll bring our RPMs down this is our throttle right here and we will disengage our shuttle shift pull up our brake raise our handle here let's make sure we're at the lowest idle we can possibly be we'll keep our air conditioning on that is nice guys that was a morning on the farm it's two o'clock I haven't had breakfast I thought it would take a little less time but as you can see it looks absolutely gorgeous this is that low area that I told you was wet I was able to get back in here just a little bit I'll bring the ventrac over and finish up all that and as we top this little Hill up here again you see this in the Drone footage right here this is a windrow in other words it's a row of stumps and debris I'll try and get you some footage of clearing this field at the end that's all stumps and debris it's all rotting it's going back to the land and then we'll push it off over in those wet spots so that's where the timber was cut that's where Timber's cut and that's where I just mowed guys thanks a lot for joining me today the Batwing mower is always Woods batwing I can't say enough about it Big T the tymt 1104 grunted a little bit in there which tells me that I've got a video coming soon to show you guys how to do the quick attach blade system for the woods batwing you'll really like that pretty awesome stuff guys we gotta head back Lube up check our fluids make sure everything's cool so we can do it again tomorrow thanks a lot guys we'll see you next time on the Stony Ridge Farm Channel hey cows it's time we're gonna get the road there boy let's get in that third gear bam Now That's What I Call high quality H2 remote break off any of the Batwing let's take this thing back to the shed
