What happens here

This project details the process of upgrading an old home's galvanized steel water supply lines to modern PEX tubing. The replacement involves disconnecting and removing existing metal pipes, addressing problematic plumbing configurations, installing new PEX lines for hot and cold water to various fixtures (kitchen, bathroom, laundry, refrigerator), and ensuring proper connections for improved water flow and system reliability.

I swear if I find a black widow spider on me right now I'm going to burn this house down welcome back to another episode on the abandoned house series if you missed last week's episode we completely rewi this entire house including this kitchen 60-year-old cable does not last very long not to mention the whole house was a fire hazard completely off thewall be sure to go check it out it'll make your palm [Music] sweaty [Music] with the lexual finally passing the final inspection we're able to start tackling our plumbing now typically this location here wouldn't be a problem for me because the overall sink will be here centered with this new window but as you can see these are old steel galvanized pipes and what do we know about Metal piping it likes to collect rust especially after 60 years of work so the plan for today is completely re-plumbing this entire house I need a vacation I'm going to break this project up into two segments just for my own sanity I'm going to first work with the water lines transition them all to pecs that's the Modern Day stuff that everybody uses and then tomorrow I'll start doing all this drainage here which is uh I don't know I think I can get away with galvanized piping but I'll have to check up on code so meantime let's keep our fingers crossed that we could actually unscrew these pipes cuz that's going to be a whole lot of cutting with the saw oh yeah we're going to have to earn our cute [Music] today oh boy would you look at that look at all this rust that's just sitting on top that's going through your faucet I bet you you turn on the water and it looks like blood or something like that it's all this orange disgusting we're going to put a stop to this [Music] I hope you like tap water cuz if you could survive this you can survive [Music] anything it's not even secured by anything it looks like the fitting from this elbow onward is uh steel but it's threading into PVC which that's good news that means I don't have to run all new PVC I just need to basically run from here I don't know how this drain pipe was even sitting on there there's I mean that's just sitting caked with PVC so I think the guy just like slid it on but it definitely does not screw in deep enough is there anything done right in this house all right let's go into the creepy basement all right so here's my drain 1 and 1/2 in at least that's up to standard here are are my water lines so we need to get those out it's going to be a pain to unscrew them so I wonder if I can just hack them off and I don't know where this pipe is going to it's just not connected to anything up front just pipes and black widows oh I just found a perfect toy for this job haven't even got to use it this should make cutting steel a lot [Music] I got to get over there on the other side of this Foundation but I got this stupid chicken coup in this basement is this a vacuum why is there a vacuum in here you going to be vacuuming on dirt up it's like a catch all drawer I guess there's a stump bird feed okay I shouldn't complain like at least have some access here to the plumbing but I don't know if it's the most ideal that's water water [Music] lines and we got water time this is going to be a recurring event today guys creativity is one of the most important things to me as not only a person that builds stuff that's to get creative building things for you kiwo for everything you do for us and our kids and this channel now let's get back to this video keeps pinching the blade not ideal folks not ideal working conditions but we're here we're staying positive we're going to be appreciative of not being in here anymore soon once this is done you know glass how full here's up there's a vertical piece it's sticking out it's preventing me from pulling it out let's go dig it [Music] out oh man I had to earn this one got these pipes uh we're going to keep this one look at the spiderweb if you're afraid of spiders or spiderweb this is not the place to be I'm going to leave this pipe cuz that's my gas line that's not going to be a good thing to cut it's a bad day for the Ombre I swear if I find a black widow spider on me right now I'm going to burn this house you know I like this little Banda but once it get gets pinched it's not going anywhere y That's the water that you'll be washing your hands or your [Music] dishes so kitchen water is disconnected we have two water sources coming in Municipal Water here which there's no meter so there's no Municipal well water is running right there and it's all connected through this little Junction so if this is where water is going to be coming into my house I'm going to have to just disconnect it from here and then run all new pecs that's going to the bathrooms the kitchen you know important [Music] stuff [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] here [Music] I get this thing in here oh thank you something flung my is that rusty water this is maybe why I should be one of [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] these we've come to the source here this ladies and gentlemen is my electric water heat was my electric water hereat I guess so obviously all the main lines come in here Heats it up goes out look what this puppy is it's completely rusted out here I'll give you better lighting look at that it's completely rusted at the bottom and uh all these uh fittings here are all calcified or whatever that is absolute shame I'm guessing this is the original water heater too so we're going to have to get a new one and put it on a platform this time oh my goodness that's just metal just broke off how much damage does a metal pipe have to go through in order for it just to break off like that wild wild times in the abandon house look at this we have like a double P trap we got it coming up here I don't know I mean you have to have enough Force for it to come down again but I'm pretty sure that's not how you're supposed to do p traps that's some Cowboy right there it's like one of those memes where a kid's head is stuck between the railing of banisters it's like you can't get it out it's cut on both sides so I have to keep cutting more the only problem now is because suspended it's it's got to vibrate so it's not going to cut so I have to manually unscrew some of these to be able to pass [Music] Destiny might be a lady but victory has a penis right that is the last water line that's existing here disconnected from my water heater got my kitchen lines out bathroom lines out the fortunate thing is this is a single story and only one bathroom so uh yeah that sucks doesn't it uh but it makes our life a lot easier so got to go up top pull these out from the cabinets themselves and uh we should start riding new Pex piping that's going to be the exciting part nice and disconnected I don't know if you have a clearance room here ah there's too much vibration in this thing I wonder if I could just unscrew that Kyle just had a brilliant idea why I just take off this piece of wood and I was like well I need it for the new lines but then I remember the new PEX is going to have this bracket that secures the water lines so we don't need it good call kle oh look at this thing woo getting this thing out of the dungeon finally it's all vertical [Music] vintage all right folks back for more got all my supplies to start running all new lines here so uh the only really solid way of doing it is starting from the beginning and then working our way out so I'm assuming our water heater is going to go back in the same spot here we're going to place our bracket where the lines are going to have the water shut off valve and all that fun Jazz here so what we're doing is we're getting our connectors to our water heater first so this goes to our water heater there we need water shut off valve and the first line of lines that are coming out in order to have the most amount of flow is use 3/4 inch to be our main feed and then it'll break down into half inch when it goes to the actual utilities like a sink or whatever reason why is I think when they do like the gallon flow whatever the calculation the/ inch only gets to 82 or something like that and then the 3/4 inch jumps to like 1.82 like almost doubles it so that's going to be the most efficient way of using this put this in here get this cramp plint ring on put our water stop valve and then from that point on start working our way out okay we have our hookups for our water heater we have our shut off valves Let's uh make our lives easy and work on the cold water first and then we'll do the run heating so I have my water inlet here my water heater there uh The Gray Line the pencil mark That's indicator of just cold water what needs uh the black Sharpie that's an indicator where I need hot water so we'll start with the cold run it straight run it back and then over to the [Applause] kitchen this 3/4 inch stuff is like as stiff as a rock especially when it's coiled up one line will go down there into the kitchen this line will go into the bathroom when you're drilling holes you have to account for expansion of the pecs so if you're using half in pecs you got to drill a 3/4 in hole if you're using 3/4 in pecs like we are you got to drill a 1in hole so put that in your [Music] got a little too excited didn't stick to the plan got to have a plan without that a plan you're going to be wasting all your money on supplies moving on to our first halfin pipe breakoff this is going to be cold water for the washing machine how exciting is that doesn't help when you have a million things in your pocket screws fittings Clips basically a whole hardware store one man one holes fortunately everything's close together here on this back side of the house washing machines here the turlet inlet is right there and and then the shower is another 16 in after that I mean they're space but that's where the plumbing is so kind of makes my life a little bit easier but it's just a big jigsaw puzzle here now boom our turlet has got some water now s there's a laundry oh only cold there we need hot uh now let's do the shower shower cold right here I might as well run a t instead of an Bubba C Showers are [Music] trying to do this with one hand well two hands but I got to hold this thing up while it's facing the right direction and then crimp it with my shoulder just a little party trick I guess if this just works out is my Gap correct and we got cold water in the bathroom good job good job guys now since we're still in the same neck of the house let's run our hot water to both the laundry the shower and the vanity in the bathroom same thing could you imagine doing this where I can't imagine doing is this exact work but something that didn't have this basement access but you have to just be on this crawl space that's about I don't know 2 and 1/2 ft tall now that's terrifying to me I don't get claustrophobic but that sounds like a special occasion for me oh right in the NOG I'm glad I had my hat on [Music] oh this is just great I need a reducer from 3/4 in to/ inch and I didn't buy one uh I need the elbow and uh that's another trip to Lowe's or Home Depot whichever one's close so uh I still need to run hot to both the shower and the faucet but um we're already there the lines are there um after I'm done today I'll run down a Home Depot in the meantime let's run our lines to the kitchen that I'm more excited about [Music] I think I think I collected just maybe all of the spiderwebs with my head alone see there's you could use a broom you can go buy stuff but just claw them through it just crawl through it you'll uh I'm sure you'll get it this is not good for the brand at all [Music] sliding off this stupid Dirt Pile think I'm going sleding the [Music] winner killing it at this whole tug of- War thing wait till I go to the county fair now they're going to have a monster on their hand a real problem on their hands that's a [Music] this thing hates me oh it hates [Music] me okay okay that's as far as we go oh my God I'm a TI so s te water running to the faucets in the kitchen water running to the laundry water running to the shower the vanity the toilet and we just need to get a water running to our Outdoor Faucet boy we're getting along aren't we got my water line running up here this is going straight to the refrigerator so I have my little box here so it's going to get nailed just right there this cover comes off cut the drywall around it cut the pecs and kind of bridge it over and then we'll use the uh female adapter if I could find it here somewhere oh there it is thread it on and then crimp it so then we'll have water for our refrigerator something that they didn't have before there you go much [Music] [Applause] [Music] better beautiful we now have water coming to a refrigerator I need to go down there and secure these pipes cuz they're kind of falling down so I got to use my little anchors to make sure they stick out and then obviously cut a new piece so it's all just covered cuz this is just I mean it looks like they just threw the bomb at it and just made a bunch of holes like a glove is if the glove was just a hair small on you now these are just hangers so they're not really going to keep it from doing much but when you clamp them tight it keeps the tube from going down in which I'd hate for them to drop back in cuz it's going to be pretty annoying huh Finishing Touch let's cap them off so we don't have any uh oh moments now for this moment you don't want to be putting on your water stop valves because the idea is here you keep the surface area small build your cabinets cut the hole perfectly small slide it over and then you can connu your plumbing so you're going to have to create a big old opening if you don't do this right now think ahead this part set let's go do laundry see if I bought the right stuff they had two different versions they had just the box and you buy the valve separately excuse me or uh for triple the price you get a box that has the valves already and uh we're trying to save money somewhere at least idea here is it's going to go around there that's about as tall as an average washing machine is right however we're going to have to replace this drain uh this looks like inch and a half uh code requires 2 in drain for the washing machine here so that's going to get hacka off anyway so that'll save us some time you ever asked yourself what the hell did I buy why do I have one 0° and one straight up sometimes I just black out at these stores honestly it's nothing can ever go just fixure perfect smooth can it let's get a proper 2in hole in there which is weird cuz he had a 2 iner and then it reduced it why you were on the right [Music] track nothing worse than cutting a hole over an existing hole there's no use of your pilot bit all right let's STI our pipe down [Music] all right we got an appropriate washing machine drain we got our box we still need to go get our uh water shut off valves for the washer machine this thing is vented now let's tackle the problem in the bathroom of course there's more and more problems this is where this magic is happening so we have an appropriate size inch and a quarter uh sorry inch and a half for the bathroom here technically bathroom f sinks are inch and a quarter but he's got inch and a half that's just fine and it's going to this drain inch and a half perfectly perfect uh here's where the problem goes we have to go on the other side of this wall on the other side of this wall he's got an aav valve and aav valves are usually placed whenever there's no vent tubes coming up reason why you need vent tubes is because one is it helps kind of the the creates a vacuum of drainage so it doesn't start gurgling on you as you're you know dumping water down the sink think about it as like shotgunning a beer right so you puncture a hole so the air ens and then you drink it so air escapes I don't know the exact science I'm not a scientist I'm just a guy with a YouTube channel but the second thing it does it also keeps the gases uh the toxic gaset that are actually flammable uh out of your house so I don't know what the science with the AV valve how it does it but it prevents it while keeping the drain well I'm going to have an AV valve in the kitchen because I don't have an inner wall cavity that I could feed through the bottom but in the bathroom because I have have room to actually do something I'm going to vent this thing out so this is going to be a wet V vent so that means it's connected to a sink we're going to drill our holes and then put a vent tube all the way up through the uh the roof I [Music] guess now the fun part here is how do you feed this pipe that barely flexes through all these studs I feel like my head's just stuck between a guard rail and there's an easy way out but I can't think of it so I might have to do it in a couple of sections of coupling so run a piece maybe from here to here and then up there and then the third piece will run to the seal through the roof might be my best bet so far is my hole not even big enough oh I'm an idiot the bit that I bought is I was looking I was like oh I need an inch and a half bit but that's inch and a half for inside not the outside you know some YouTubers stage drama for their videos what keeps it real really happens so it's a perfect location uh I got our vent tube which is awesome great circulation here we're going to have great fumes coming out now let's go uh see what else is going on remember when I said the kitchen's a weird story well cuz the plumbing the drain specifically is not…
