What happens here
To determine the paint type, simply take a Tru-Swipe wipe and rub it on the painted wood surface, such as a door. If the wipe picks up paint (color on the wipe), the paint is water-based (latex). If no paint is transferred, it's likely oil-based. This test is quick and essential for selecting the correct primer and paint system. The video shows this on a white painted door, noting that white paint on a white wipe might be hard to see but confirms paint transfer. The same process is repeated with a Tru-Swipe swab, showing a visible yellow paint transfer, indicating a latex-painted surface.
Goal: Demonstrate how to use Tru-Swipe wipes and swabs to quickly identify whether the existing paint on a wood surface is latex (water-based) or oil-based, which affects subsequent preparation.
