What happens here
Begin by clearly defining the layout of the patio, pool coping, retaining walls, and steps using spray paint or marking flags. Excavate the area to the required depth, typically 8 to 12 inches, to accommodate the granular base, bedding sand, and pavers, ensuring proper slope for drainage away from the house and pool. Compact the exposed sub-base thoroughly using a plate compactor. Lay down a layer of geotextile fabric over the compacted sub-base to prevent base material from mixing with the soil. Next, spread a uniform layer of granular base material, typically 4 to 8 inches of crushed stone or gravel, over the fabric. Compact this base layer in lifts (2-4 inches at a time) using the plate compactor until it is firm and stable. Ensure the base has the correct slope for drainage.
Goal: Establish a stable, well-drained foundation for the hardscape elements.
