What happens here
This video details the process of replacing a leaking outdoor hose bib (faucet) with a new, more user-friendly quarter-turn ball valve hose bib. The repair involves safely shutting off the main water supply, carefully removing the old, seized faucet, preparing the pipe threads with both PTFE tape and pipe dope for a secure seal, installing the new faucet, restoring water pressure, checking for leaks, and finally, sealing the connection with silicone caulk to prevent future issues.

(4,382 characters)All right, so here is what we're looking at. Hey folks, that fix it guy here. Today I'm over at my mother-in-law's house again. She's got a little drip going on on a hose bib and we're gonna get this fixed. So come along. Let's get to fixing. We have a little bit of play right here. And I'm going to see if I can stick these little thin channel locks back there to hold this back while I remove it. So let's go shut some water off. So we're in the bathroom downstairs. I pull this panel off. This is actually where the main water comes in the house. We got a pressure regulator. And if you get right back up under here, you can see right there. And this actually shuts the hose bib off. It's just a hard little reach there. All right. So, let's go see if it's off. That is the water shut off, which is awesome. And now let's see what we got. >> Okay. Well, that is I feel like that's a good little hold right there. All right. Let's see what we got here. Maybe not. Okay, hold on. I got a little bit I got bigger channel locks. I didn't know how much more play I could go with that. They said, "Well, there's bar." >> There we go. >> Okay. >> Squeeze. >> Okay. Yeah. You want to squeeze? You want to squeeze there? So, we had to get two of us on this. This is a Okay. >> Oh, yeah. Okay. That bad boy. >> What did you do? Did you have to heat it or anything? >> No, just muscle. >> We had to muscle up at the muscle in here. Yeah. in there. >> Yeah, >> they they got bigger pliers. >> Yeah, and bigger pliers. >> Got leverage on it. >> Oh, and those threads look good. Easily been there for 60 years, but it came off. And honestly, it still looks really good. We'll clean those threads up. >> We'll clean off that uh Teflon. We'll put some Megalock, some pipe dope on there. Good to rock and roll. Apparently, the shut off valve doesn't shut completely off either. We're going to put in this quarter turn style hose bib for her. It's going to be a little bit easier and it doesn't angle as far down. You see how far this is? There's not a lot of space right there. So, this is pretty nice for getting the hose on and off. The back edge of these threads cleaned off a little bit. We're going to use some Blue Monster Teflon tape. This is It's just a little bit thicker of a Teflon tape cuz it's going to be a little easier to manage. What was that scream? Rewrap's going to be good. I like to just get it all worked in there. Little mega lock all over my pliers as well. Pipe. This pipe dope with a mixture of teflon. Knock on a wood chip. I've never had a leak using this combo on here. Get it started a little bit. Now we're going to have to flip this. Let's pull this out just a little bit more. That way we're not grabbing threads. Tighten this up. All right, we're back in the game here. We can go turn this on and test it. Turned all the way on. Oh my gosh, we got a little drip going on there. All right, let's give that packing nut just a little tighten there to stop that water from leaking. It looks good. There's nothing there. Quick little tighten of that. Good to go. I don't know how many of you folks out there own the Kipex product, but man, they make quality tools. Okay, just spraying me down. Get all that wiped off around there. A little 100% silicone will just pop around the edge of this crack just to keep rodents out or anything else out. That's all cleaned up. It's going to dry clear. We'll put the hose back on here and we'll go and give it a test. Pop this hose holder back in place. Pretty nice. Got just snakes that stick down in the ground right here. This is way better right here. Just being able to go at this little bit of an angle and get that hooked up. Crank that on. Now we've got some water flowing here. It's going to be so nice. Quarter turn on, quarter turn off. With this all hooked up right here, let's go back inside and just make sure that all this is taken care of. And you never even knew I took the wall off. All right. Well, there we go. That's what I got for you today. Glad this worked out the way that it did. A quick little hose bib replacement. Wasn't too bad of a job.
