(12,526 characters)hey folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome to the farm blog today baby goats are doing great we still just have five baby goats today we're going to get the John Deere 310 D backhoe out of the shed and down to the house we're gonna pressure wash it get it cleaned up yesterday I took it out and I greased all the fittings really good and I moved the arm on it and I moved the bucket on it I moved them all back and forth to try and work that grease in real good and we're gonna pressure wash and clean up the tractor and get it ready to start using so come along today on the farm blog we're gonna get the John Deere 310 D out and have some fun cleaning it up and we'll walk you around to show y'all what it's all about all right contact idle up a little bit it is a synchronized ship shuttle shuttle ship raised our bucket a little bit let's get it out got to be careful I hit that bucket arm it's a big machine all right so let's show you how this thing works this is my shuttle ship full reverse / / forward let's idle it down a little bit you can see that shake in the pipe I gotta get that pipe attached a little bit better so this is the sink shuttle that goes backwards steps forwards this is my speed lower hi this is my bucket controller raise and lower my bucket right there this is my brain so you'll hear it beat here in a second when I put it in reverse the brake is on I got it shut the brake off like so and now I can move that is the backhoe arm so let's go forward and let's idle look there we go Brennan smooth driver on down to the house this is a big piece of machinery right here this bucket is I believe eight feet wide 76 horsepower that's what I think this tractor is 76 horsepower so folks if you're new to the channel we got this backhoe in a deal with two other trackers we bought two compact tractors and the backhoe all in one big package deal I cleaned up the compact tractors and sold those and I'm still on the fence about whether to sell this backhoe this thing can be a super awesome item to have on the farm for clearing stumps and digging ditches and stuff so we're gonna wash it up good and we'll talk a little bit more about it once we get it cleaned down here show you how dirty it is it's got like moss growing on it and a little bit of rust here in the seat area and I'll show you the seat I'm not sitting on a seat I'm sitting on a chunk of metal we got a new seat to put on it too all right that are in neutral we'll set our parking brake lower our bucket actually we're going to leave the bucket up just a little bit and we'll dump it down so water runs out of it as we clean there's a handle right there and pull that handle I can rotate my seat around and we want to extend this as far as we can bring it out and then down I'm doing this one-handed so push that guy out it just it's smooth is it it can be smooth as silk tight as a tick and we'll Park it just like this and that way we can wash everything here now this machine only has about 2200 hours on it and went on tractor house or tractor data or something like that one of those auction sites to check out what this thing would bring if I went to sell it machines like this with five six thousand hours or going for fifteen sixteen thousand dollars so we got a smoking deal once I get to washing this thing we'll raise a bucket clean up underneath there just need to clean it up make it look pretty we decide to sell it and if not I don't know I don't know I can rent a backhoe when I need a backhoe and not have to maintain this thing but the deal I got in it it's almost too inexpensive for me to get rid of so I don't know I'm kind of on the fence about it let's wash it up so we just got years of grime and gross stuff right here is just it's just mildew in the South where I live it's very humid and this mildew will grow on anything we've got like moss or lichen growing on here this is the pipe of us telling you about it's probably yeah it's not too hot but you can see it's kind of shaky as you can tell so I'm gonna have to cut that pipe off and put a new muffler bracket on there hold it in place good and this is what the operator station looks like it's just got dirt in there and the seat is all roached out and gone but everything else is really solid I could do a nice restoration nice krylon restoration on this it only has one leaking cylinder and that's the cylinder right here it doesn't leak a ton but it probably needs to be repacked or new seals put in it we greased up everything there are a few grease fittings like this gigantic mess I made that would not take grease so this is what the loader arm looks like oftentimes I think you judge a backhoe on the amount of slop in the in the backhoe it doesn't have a lot of slop it's not floppy or anything like that it's a cool machine so we're gonna take some super clean and soak down some of the really really greasy nasty spots here on this tractor it's already got the grease just dripping right off now here's a purchase I'll never regret so really quickly let's walk around and I'll show you I give you a tour of how dirty this thing is and then we'll come back and I'll show you how good it cleaned up [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] two and a half hours of pressure washing oh man that was a job soaking wet my arms are wear out from holding the gun on the pressure washer I won't be sore tomorrow from pressure washing which seems kind of funny so it cleaned up really really nice and we'll walk you around show you real quick and I want a couple pieces of advice from you heavy equipment type guys this machine has been sitting for somewhere in a neighborhood of four years I'm gonna check the oil with you I'm gonna check the transmission fluid with you or hydraulic fluid and let you take a look at it and tell me what you think the question I have here is should I go on and change the hydraulic filter should I go on and change all the hydraulic fluid out or should I leave it alone let's take a look at the fluid see how clear it is I know I need to change the engine oil and filter that's a no-brainer but do I take out all the fuel do I take out all the hydraulic fluid or do I leave it in case online bust or something like that it seems like a big waste for me to dump out I think it holds 26 gallons of high guard hydraulic fluid and that stuff they don't give it away it's like 75 to 85 dollars for a five-gallon bucket so do I change out the hydraulic fluid or do I just change out the filter do I change out the fuel filter or do I just let it run and see if it picks up any trash and change it if I need to do I dump all the old fuel out for fear of it having gel in it or do I just keep running it I put a treatment in it to try and break down that Jill that algae that forms in diesel fuel when it sits for a long time I don't know I need your advice guys tell me what you think I should do let's walk around the tractor and I'll show you how good it cleaned up so it really did clean up very very nicely all this was covered with mildew and mold there's still some staining on here but nothing major it just cleaned up so so nice and I knew it would when I bought it I knew it would clean up nicely that bucket is nice there's no slop in the bucket at all it does great the one hydraulic cylinder over here that leaks it might leak I don't know somewhere in a neighborhood of 20 ounces of fluid a year I would say it doesn't leak very we cleaned up very very nicely everything came out good got some staining but that's okay tires came out good wheels came out good this is the hydraulic reservoir right here and I'm pretty impressed I'm pretty happy with everything that we got here under here this is this is not bright that's a safety mechanism that you lock overtop of the hydraulic cylinder and I did not lock that so before we start checking fluids we'll lock this in place what's this this is designed to go down to prevent that hydraulic cylinder from collapsing and squishing me so if you guys caught the video where we changed the oil in the skid steer it's right here it was like four years or something since the oil had been changed well similar case right here I'm gonna crack the little latches open and we'll take a look at the fluids in here and you guys can give me your opinion so underneath here fuel filters down here I think the hydraulic filter is right down there and this is the muffler this is the air filter I've already taken the air filter out it looks really good this is the exhaust pipe issue and you can see it's just loose on there I need to get up here and cut it off and slide that clamp down and clamp it back on the muffler pretty simple the fluids in the radiator they look awesome let's open it up and take a look in there nice and pretty in green so whoever had this really took good care of it the man that had it passed away and it just sat for a long time outside so that's what's going on got a cool diagram here that tells you pretty much where everything is and all your capacities and everything like that I should have pressure washed under here huh we've got the three access points opened here under the hood there's one here one down low here for the reverser oil and one here for the hydraulic oil I'm gonna fire this thing up it says to check the reverser oil while the engine is running but cold and we'll check that we'll check the oil we'll check the hydraulic fluid I'll let you guys check out the fluids tell me what reverser oil is I know some of you guys have a lot more knowledge about this than I do imagine the first time you got on a lawnmower when you're about 12 years old that's about how much knowledge I have of this machine so I don't know a whole lot about it gonna be learning a whole lot about it as we go on but any helpful tips or information you guys can give would be super awesome let's get under the hood here after we fired up and let it warm up okay how many of you cringe when I got up there and started that thing without sitting in the seats the seats wet but it won't start unless the brake is engaged we're gonna check the reverser for it looks pretty clean it's not foamy I've got plenty of fluid in there all right there's the check level so put it back well shut it down we'll check the engine oil which is right here pretty simple the engine oil let's put it on the glove here it seems to show a little better so looks pretty good doesn't look bad at all especially for a diesel engine I'd almost say it doesn't need to be changed but it's been in there for somewhere in the neighborhood of four years or so I really don't know exactly so it's due for a change for sure a full service let's fire it up again and let it warm up and we'll check the hydraulic fluid let me know guys if you know about this stuff do I need to let it warm up and to check the hydraulic fluid tell me brake is locked firing it up okay so we're nice and warm and then running about ten minutes now I'm gonna check the hydraulic fluid it's not even registering so we need to put some hydraulic fluid in here for sure takes high guard I think I squeezed all I can get out of that bucket guys I got my favorite funnel holder here mrs. Stoney Ridge let me know what you think guys should I change out all the hydraulic fluid or should I just change the filter should I even fool with it should I just run it and see what it does if it any hoses blow or anything like that then take care of it should I sell it or should I keep it I could probably get 15 grand for this I could probably rent one for a day and get all the work that I need to get done for two years and not have to maintain this piece of equipment I don't know should I change a fuel out or should I change the fuel filter should I drain the old fuel putting you fuel in or just put that additive in there to let it eat that algae out and see what it does I know you've been wanting to know what's up with the backhoe it's been moved around in different spots and videos and finally we're getting out here and we're gonna work it we're gonna have some fun with it let me know should I keep it should I sell it what should I do to maintain it thanks a lot for coming to join us here on the Stoney Ridge farm today I appreciate you pound that like button subscribe to the channel if you're new to the channel welcome welcome aboard I hope to see you again here on the Stoney Ridge farm see you next time [Music] all right good right on the money we got it right on the money awesome
