Exterior Painting Tips | Restoring a door jamb

[Music] we're working on an exterior this is going to be an exterior repaint these are satellite dish or cable dish cables and they're nailed all over the house they're around this door it's really hard to sand Prime the door and so I started questioning the customer about it and I don't like cables on the H on the outside of the house cuz they're really ugly but she did say she doesn't use a satellite dish she doesn't use cable TV she has a smart TV that she just uses Netflix and she would like all the cables to be gone so we're removing them we're going to remove the satellite it's going to make it way easier to the outside of the door sand this and prime it and it's going to look a lot nicer and one thing you know the cable companies um if you tell them to have no cables exposed when they're installing dishes and stuff they actually can do it they can fish It Down the Walls they don't like to because it makes their job a lot harder um and takes a lot longer and they're typically not getting paid but if they won't hide them uh local cable um installers like around here boys Idaho wire guys you can pay them they'll make all your cables um unexposed so this is something that's going to look a lot nicer removing all these cables I'm just going to cut this line we're going to get up there pull the dish seal it with through the roof where the holes are and it'll look a lot [Music] this door jam brick mold does get weathered um it wears out pretty fast starts peeling you can replace it brick mold is common at every do-it-yourself hardware store to buy this piece you can cut it off but you can if you sand it and prime it it'll actually look pretty decent and if it's not in the C customers budget to do a full replace then you can sand Prime uh it sand it again and it'll actually look pretty amazing we'll show you what the in results going to look like it does need to be cauled also but I'm going to Prime first we got some bare wood a lot of bare wood the caulking is going to stick better to primed wood versus bare wood so I'm going to put a coat of of triple thck on here I'll sand it after it's dry put a second coat of triple thick it's going to fill in all this checking on here and then eventually when we hand brush it we'll put two coats hand brushed on and we'll see how it's going to look it'll actually I know it's going to look amazing so but we'll show you on camera what it's going to look like so I'm just going to brush on a coat it's better to brush it on cuz you're going to be pushing it down into all the checking and splintering and you want to lay it out nicely cuz you do want this door jam to look nice when it's done you don't want to have it all stippled with paint so so um Mr fly wants to bother me still all this will be cocked on the side here we'll all that after we prime it the primer is going to dry pretty fast hand brush you can see it's filling it in just with one coat the triple thick is white so it's going to dry white so you'll see exactly where I [Music] went [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
