What happens here
Construct a robust metal stand, typically using welded steel tubing or angle iron, to securely hold a standard 55-gallon (or similar size) metal fuel drum in a horizontal, elevated position. The elevation is crucial to enable gravity feeding. Prepare the drum by thoroughly cleaning and purging it, then painting it a durable, weather-resistant white. Clearly label the drum with a prominent 'MIXED FUEL ONLY' decal or stenciled paint to prevent accidental contamination. Install appropriate fuel-rated inlet fittings on the top side of the drum for receiving fuel and an outlet fitting at the bottom, connecting it to a fuel hose and a manual dispensing nozzle.
Goal: Create a dedicated mixed fuel storage and dispensing unit.
Tools and materials
- Angle Grinder — For cutting and shaping metal components for the stand
- Fuel Hose — For dispensing mixed fuel from the drum to equipment
- Fuel-Rated Inlet/Outlet Fittings — To create secure, leak-proof connections for fuel hoses to the drum
- Manual Fuel Nozzle — To control the flow of fuel during dispensing
- Metal Drum — The primary container for mixed fuel storage
- Paint Sprayer or Brushes — Applying paint to the fuel drum and stand
- Respirator — Protection from paint fumes and welding smoke
- Safety Glasses — Eye protection during fabrication and painting
- Steel Tubing or Angle Iron — For constructing the custom elevated stand
- Welding Gloves — Hand protection during welding operations
- 'MIXED FUEL ONLY' Decal/Sticker — Clear and permanent labeling of the tank's contents
- Thread Sealant or Teflon Tape — Ensuring leak-proof connections for all fuel fittings
- White Exterior Paint — Painting the fuel drum and stand for visibility and protection
