Don’t skimp on this step

What happens here

Once the joints appear full, use a vibratory plate compactor (or a hand tamper for smaller areas) to settle the pavers and further consolidate the polymeric sand within the joints. Make several passes over the entire paver surface to ensure even compaction. After compaction, some joints may have settled and created new voids. Apply additional polymeric sand to these areas and repeat the sweeping process from Step 2 to ensure all joints are completely filled to the top, providing maximum stability. The video shows a plate compactor briefly in the background, followed by more sweeping.

Goal: Settle pavers and sand, ensuring joints are packed and completely full.

Tools and materials

  • Push Broom — Sweeping additional sand
  • Vibratory Plate Compactor — Consolidating the sand and settling the pavers
  • Polymeric Sand — To top off settled joints
