(14,783 characters)the police line. Do not cross. So, don't press that pedal cuz the pedal doesn't work right. It'll push your boom one way or the other like this. It doesn't go back. Don't buy it if it doesn't start. Timmy wants to show you this. So, we're going to We're going to turn off the camera and we're going to show you what Timmy wants to show you because I think it is important. It's actually huge. All right, guys. I'm here with Tim and Alex, and we are going to walk through used excavators and show you what we look for when we are in the process of buying a used piece of equipment. And what spurred this video series, it started with trucks, then it went to skid loaders, and now it's on excav uh mini excavators. What originally spurred this was over at the Dirt Monkey shop, we have a repo section and we're working with a company called Yes Leasing. And the Yes Leasing guys have basically told me that if you have a pulse and a good story, they'll be able to get you financing. So, I wanted to walk through what to look for if you are going to buy a used piece of equipment. And one of the things to know over at the Dirt Monkey shop, you can use the Yes, leasing for anything that's over there, but it's lease to own. So although the financing may be a little bit more expensive because they will finance just about anybody, the thing is you're leasing, you're not renting, you haven't bought. It's 100% tax deductible. Every scent you put into that machine is 100% tax deductible. And we're having a little problem. It's not that cold out. No hat, no mittens, no gloves. And she does not want to fire up. Nothing. Should have should have popped. This popped right off. I think it's low battery. This battery is old on this one. Yeah, but she was she was giving it some juice in the very beginning there. Yeah. I just All right. Well, let's try the older machine and see how well that fire This one will fire up here. Hit the glow plugs on that. I mean, the machine the back of the machine looks good. See, that's the way it should have fired up. I think it's battery's fault. I think if you hook this one up the jumper, it had to fire right up. I don't still don't think it had enough jumper right in the garage. I don't think we want to do it right now. How important is it to get it running for video? It's not. We got one machine running for a video. I think this is just right now. I wanted to show that one with the with the what? Swing motor and the Oh, the crunchy swing mark. Alex, it's got the crunchy swing motor. We do got to show that. We do got to show it. All right. Tim, want to back this one out? I want to see this one back out. Tim is demonstrating the proper technique for running a mini excavator. Sometimes get wet when you're running it. I wouldn't normally sat down, but I I don't want to wear all the water that's in the beautiful seat there. We do have a seat pad for this. What's the hours on this machine? You got to look at this in the back. I think this one got a couple thousand hours, too, on it. This is an indicator that there's a problem this opening. This is probably the best demonstration you could go to. What's that? I said it's got almost 3,000 hours and this thing runs like a night. I actually think this has less hours than that one. Really? Yeah. Leave it. You might as well leave her unstrapped. We'll go through We'll We'll We'll go We'll go through them from stem to stern. This has This has newer tracks on it, too. Yep. That's a big thing right there too on this excavators. How much slop and play they have. And then also the boom, too. This one has seen better days. You can really see it, but that Yep. Right up in there. So, what Tim and Alex are demonstrating is the overall tightness of the machine. You should now be able to grab the machine and do this. And then this this might be an indicator if you show shoot it from the side here. Stan, this whole cylinder is bent right here. You have to back up and back up and look at it. So what kind of goes like this? Cuz right here you can see it. Someone was a genius by I who's a genius. Yeah, it was someone that works here. So I accidents happen. Okay. We bent the cylinder arm. Yeah. Yep. So that's not repairable. Actually, you can see it right here. You can see it's starting to leak. You Well, you can just see it's going this way and this is coming down this way. It's completely off. Yeah. So, this is a great example of what you would look for and may want or may not want. You know, you're going to run into expenses. You're going to Yeah. And it's when you're running excavator and you're up tight to structures and buildings, you don't want the slop. You're trying to drop it in the trench and it's like this. You're It's like playing what's that operator. You're not trying to touch the edges and it Yeah. beeps on you. Except you got somebody's life sitting right there. Different. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Seat is seat is a def definite indicator of the overall wear and quality the cab. I mean, we talked about with the skid loaders the overall general maintenance of the machine. Well, look at this one. Definitely some of that maintenance was never done properly. Few bargaining tools on this one. If you were going to this one, you might have a little bit to work with. the police line. Do not cross. Holding down this the Yeah. Don't push that button cuz it doesn't go back. Yeah. Oh, wait. So, don't press that pedal cuz the pedal doesn't work right. It'll push your boom one way or the other like this and it doesn't go back. You got to It's just There's stuff you have time for maintenance and then there's stuff you you run this thing and it it's you know, this one's out on every single job site. digging digging wall trenches, you know. Uh it still goes. It's still It's still It depends on what you're using them for, you know. Another thing, too, we mentioned it in the other video, but make sure your sticker your tags are on. That'll tell you the the serial number. Make sure that you know it's not been it's it doesn't have anything weird going on with it there. As we walk around and we look at the condition of the hoses, these This This may have a little wear on it. Just a little. Just a little bit. Just Just some some things to to look for when you're doing it. It's been around forever. Yeah. What is this? 2001. I can't even tell if that's got oil in it or not. Uh the blade uh they most of them have a blade. So the condition of the blade will tell you how hard it was. It was rode hard and put away wet. That's solid, too. No play on that. No play on the blade. Definitely. Again, check the bogey wheels on this track condition. These are These are huge, especially on excavators. Yep. Dozers are dozers are where it's really important on a dozer. This is huge. You can see this one's getting a little sharp. Yeah. Not too bad, though. Really, really is not bad to the point for 3,000 hours. That's not terrible. Yeah, these ain't move these ain't moving as much ground as a dozer, you know, right? Yep. Or a skit or a skiddy, right? Yep. These drive in, dig a trench, and drive out pretty much. Yep. Let's As we look back here, it actually doesn't look too bad. Yeah, not super bad for oil leaks in there. Um, you can tell the new filter's on there. Oil change is just just done. check the fluid level, what the oil looks like. Like you can tell we just did the oil change and it's already black again. That tells you that, hey, this this engine has been used and abused. It's older. This is nothing like that T-Rex. And then if you smell this one stand, you can smell that. It's a little burned out. Not crazy. You can kind of smell it. Actually smells pretty good. It's not bad, but you can It's got a little burn to it compared to like It's got a little smell to it. Yep. Then again, the pulleys and the belts on these. This one's got a new belt on it. So, okay. So, pull these belts. You go through them. You check them out. Yep. Now, on the uh on the other Bobcat, tell me about We can try to fire it up real quick and then talk about We just need to get the jumper cable. I'll go get the jumper cable. I got Oh, we're going have to go through that one. Huh. Yeah. She doesn't even want to fire. Almost like the fuel pump isn't engaging. What was that? this. There's this fuel shut off switch that when you turn this on. I got a little safety switch that Yep. You can start. Thought that there was a little shaft over here. That's the throttle. Pushing that one in and pulling it out. What is it? Oh, it's nothing yet. I I I haven't looked. Yeah, but on the other one, what happened? It just died on us one day and there was a little when you turned the key on, it pushed this solenoid in and it turned the fuel pump on and then we went and replaced the fuel pump, the fuel filter, and that's what it was. each side. Plenty of cranking. She's got plenty of cranking power. Yep. Oh, fuel lights on. Maybe it's out of fuel. But the gauge shows that there's some in there. But the this light right here popped out. We could try adding fuel every days. Okay. So, if it doesn't start, that's another indicator not to buy it. Timmy, if we could get the other excavator running, which we'll work on, but we've got snow coming tonight, 2 to 4 in. What What was the problem that we were having with it? Well, you can manually push it. I think maybe close to six inches to a foot. It's direction. So, what I'm talking you can go like this and it'll it'll go a little farther and you know it'll come out this far or you go like that. So, tells you something's wore out in the turntable where you know you got your your uh but wasn't there something actually crunching? And you can hear some crunching. So, it could be the the the the swing bearing the gear going out or the the motor. I think there's a I mean I'm not a mechanic, but I know there's a like that when you when you swing and then it it stops you when you let go of the handle that the brake could be going out too that that's not holding it in place, but it doesn't spin all the way around. Remember when yours went out on the Cabelco many years ago and you could just take and walk around the whole machine. that big machine just spun all the way around. So, I mean, that's a big that's a big that's a big that's a big big bill to get that to get that uh you know, they got to take the top off the off the tracks and separate separate the machine and fix that in there. So, if you if you hear that grinding and you do you remember when the boom arm broke on our Cabelco? Yeah. Remember when that snapped? So, it's a real thing and it can be fixed. It's not the end of the world, but it will seem like the end of the world. And what you'll see is you could have right here is where ours cracked right in here and they had to hold it back in place. Then they welded that patch there. So if you do see a weird patches welded on your boom arm, something that doesn't look factory, that means that boom arm at one point could have snapped. Also on another Cabelco I bought the the uh drive blew up like 20 hours after I bought it was a used machine and I bought it and I brought it in and I had it on a job site and that drive when it exploded it released a gas cloud that the entire neighborhood could smell. I had people from across the street and down the block having oil stakes. Oh god. Pure oil is so nasty. I had a dog I had a dog roll in that once. They like them smells. Oh man, that was that was horrible. But the overall condition, the condition of the seat will be an indicator of how things are. You had to wait a while for that that uh part to come in too, wasn't it? From overseas, you had uh I thought that was a long time. We had to wait like Well, there was there was a lot more to that story. We were working with a company that we had bought every piece of equipment from. It was out of uh Shak B or down south, right? It was down south. Lake like not was not Lakeville, but it was south. Anyway, long story short, we bought all of our Cabelos, all of our new Holland skid loaders. We bought everything from them and then I went and I found a bargain deal on one. There's no such thing as a bargain. And I bought it out of state and uh when when it exploded, I brought it into the shop. And the guy looked at me says, "Well, maybe you should have the people who fix it that uh you bought it from." You know, just being a total douchebag about it. So, I'm guessing that my part was delayed a little bit because I was not a priority customer for them, even though I had boughten like seven other pieces of equipment from them in the last in the few years before. But I think we've covered almost everything. Look at the quality of the tracks. That's also an indicator. Look for rips and tears. Run them all the way around. Check your boom sloppiness. Check your cylinders, hoses, fluids. Run the machine forward and backward. Turn it. It should have enough power in a turn. Run your blade up and down. Also check that. Run every single function on that machine that you possibly can. And put it under a load. If you can dig with it or load with it or do something. Absolutely. Put it under a little bit of load to hear how that because when that engine is, you're going to know the overall condition of the engine when you put it under a load. Just running it. It may sound okay, but once you start to work it, if that thing dogs out on you, uh, that's an indicator that you could have some problems and it may be just something that's a bargaining chip. Anything else, guys? No. All right. If you guys do happen to hop over to the Dirt Monkey shop and check out any of our repo equipment, you have the ability to go where the equipment is and do a thorough walk around on it and check everything out. And this is a leasing program, meaning that if you do lease a piece of equipment, whether you lease a brand new cast loader uh from our website or you lease a repo piece of equipment, 100% taxdeductible, your payments for that lease are. So, you're going to you might as well just think of it like you're saving about 33% on that piece of equipment. Anytime I can make my my payment options 100% taxdeductible, that goes a long way toward my personal purchase decision. And with less leasing, you have that option, whether it's brand new equipment or something used. But if you're looking at the used equipment, do your due diligence. That's the best way to protect yourself. But that's all I got for you on this one. Go check out more information at the dirt monkeyshop.com. And as always, God bless and go get them you guys. We'll catch you on another one. And hopefully we'll get that one fired up before the season starts up. But not today. We've got snow coming.
