Do you put joist hangers on before or after installing joists? #build #framing

What happens here

After the joist hanger has been initially secured to the joist, the worker uses the DeWalt nail gun again to drive more specialized nails. These nails are driven through the main face of the joist hanger, penetrating into the perpendicular wooden support structure, such as a ledger board (attached to a house) or a rim joist (part of a standalone deck frame). This final set of nails completes the structural connection, ensuring the joist is firmly supported and anchored.

Goal: Secure the joist hanger to the primary structural support.

Tools and materials

  • Gloves — Protecting hands during handling materials and operating tools
  • Joist Hanger Nails — Fastening the joist hangers to the wooden members, often short and galvanized
  • Metal Joist Hangers — Connecting wooden joists to a support structure
  • Nail Gun DeWalt — Efficiently driving specialized nails into the joist hangers and wood
  • Wooden Ledger Board / Rim Joist — The primary structural member to which the joists are attached
