What happens here

Begin the paver walkway installation by carefully placing the first paver onto the prepared gravel base. Ensure the paver is oriented correctly according to your desired pattern (e.g., straight or starting a herringbone). Once positioned, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the paver down. This helps to seat it firmly into the gravel base and achieve the desired level and stability. This initial paver is crucial as it sets the alignment and height for subsequent pavers.

Goal: Establish the starting point and level for the walkway

Tools and materials

  • Paver — The first unit of the walkway to be laid
  • Rubber Mallet — Gently tapping the paver into place to seat it and ensure it's level
  • Gravel Base Unspecified — The sub-base that the pavers are laid upon, providing drainage and stability
