What happens here
The video transitions to show the ongoing work. The existing "old crappy concrete" and "weird walkway" have been completely excavated and removed. Workers are visible, with one operating a plate compactor to flatten and compact a layer of light-colored gravel that forms the new base for the walkway and patio area. Another worker is using a shovel to move earth and fine-tune the grading. The area shows a clear delineation for the new path, which is wider and more integrated than the previous one, with black landscape fabric visible beneath the gravel in some sections, indicating proper base preparation for hardscaping.
Goal: Demonstrate the progress of clearing the old structure and preparing the foundation for the new hardscaping.
Tools and materials
- Gravel — Creating a stable sub-base for the new hardscaping
- Landscape fabric — Separating base material from soil, preventing weed growth, and aiding drainage
- Plate compactor — Compacting the gravel base for stability
- Shovel — Moving earth and gravel, and shaping the grade
