What happens here
This video demonstrates the benefits and proper installation of durable brass quick connectors for garden hoses. It differentiates between various types of connectors, highlights the advantages of solid brass over plastic or pot metal, and shows how to attach both straight-through and automatic shut-off quick connectors to a faucet, a garden hose, and a sprinkler for efficient and leak-free changes of attachments.

(6,216 characters)hey folks that fix it guy here and summer is upon us right my wife's washing the car we've got the kids running through the sprinklers the guard needs to get water well you got all these different things and you've got a lot of different attachments for these for your garden hose so cue these bad boys alright these are quick connectors these are solid brass quick connectors and i want to show you a little bit about them today so come along let's get to fixing [Music] [Applause] let's start this video off by saying some of these little connectors are not made the same all right this is solid brass it's got stainless steel ball bearings it's got some rubber washers in there and these are where it's at dude solid brass to last you a long time all you got to do maybe is replace the washers once in a while but this will last a while all right they make it in plastic not a big fan this is going to get sun wear this is going to get broken real easy especially with the kids this ain't gonna last all right this right here this looks like it's brass right it's yellow and it's kind of shiny well nowhere on this tag does it actually say brass this is really this is pop metal man they they shine this up they made it look pretty and you can feel it you can feel that it's kind of chintzy all right and it's pretty cheap like these things they sell them for pretty cheap i think i picked this up for about six bucks right but for me i'm gonna go with the quality i want something like this i want the solid i want somebody's going last that's just the way i am so one more thing with these is they make a couple different types right so this one if you pop this apart you can see you can see the whole way through that right that's just gonna be for a straight connection quick disconnect gonna work awesome if you want something that has an automatic shutoff on it well this is gonna be what you're looking for so this one right here you can see it's got a little brass insert in it it's got an o-ring right there and if you look down this way you can actually see that there is a hole there's two holes actually for the water to go out of that little this little brass cap right here so when you take this and you connect it it actually opens this up and it's going to force it up and the water to come on but the second that you disconnect this well the water stops and this actually acts like a little valve it's pretty sweet all right and so now we're at our hose bib you're going to want to remove your hose if you can't take it off hand tight you're going to want a adjustable jaw wrench or a pair of pliers or something you know i have these little canipes and i'm actually going to use these to put this bad boy on right you can look at this style of fitting versus this style of fitting this is going to be for hand tight and for pliers tight right that's the only way you're going to be able to rock those that grip you know you see there's no flat sides to this but the one that we're going to be putting on the faucet itself is the one that you can actually see through okay so we'll just take that so if you tighten this on there too tight you might actually have a problem undoing the quick connect so just make sure that you go to hand tight and then just a little bit past that and you should have no problem about a quarter turn or so should be good to go right and now you're able to pop that out no problem and this is gonna work this is gonna be awesome so now we can just reattach our hose pop that off right here and so you can see they actually have those grips on this as well so you can just get right there just a little bit and then go ahead and pop that back together and so now if i ever need to undo my hose well bam super quick and easy now okay so now this other type of fitting the one that kind of has the valve in it you're going to want to do this on the back side of your hose so the one that's way out there you know the one that you're going to put your sprinkler on or you're going to connect another hose to it well why does that work well if you want to do a quick changeout well guess what you don't have to go and shut your water off you're just able to disconnect this real quick it's going to stop the water flow allow you to change it out and hook some stuff up right you're just going to want a few more male adapter heads so let's go ahead and pop this bad boy on and we'll show you how it works so we just got that hooked up got our pliers just just a little snug it does need to be crazy like i said about a quarter turn okay this is able to disconnect you can see this one actually is smooth on that inside but it's got the ridges right here that you can grab onto with the pliers so just take this put this into the female connection make sure you have a washer in there because that definitely will play a part of this not leaking about a quarter turn we'll go ahead i'll crank the water on and i'll show you what we got going on here so with this on the water should totally stop there should be nothing there but then we connect it to here and it comes on all right okay so you probably saw that move a little bit well it's already stopped the water is in there it's full and then literally all you have to do is just take this i'm going to turn it away from me so i don't get blasted too much and bam we're in the game you want to shut this off well it's as simple as that right now you've got no water coming out of here all is well that's dry and you're able to switch it out and put something else on these little quick connections are awesome man all right folks so that's what i've got for you today these little bad boys are awesome you know this one if you're running multiple hoses or you're using different attachments the one with the little stop works out really well and then just the regular one to be able to disconnect your hose and move it somewhere else is really nice especially if you don't want to have a bunch of hoses laying around i really hope you guys enjoy the video if you could please subscribe to the channel click that like button we'd love to have you keep coming back thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
