What happens here

On a job site, position the pickup truck equipped with a mobile fuel transfer tank adjacent to the heavy equipment (such as the excavator shown) that requires refueling. Ensure there is enough space and stability for safe operation. A worker will then retrieve the fuel hose and nozzle from the transfer tank setup on the truck's bed. Insert the fuel nozzle securely into the fuel tank opening of the heavy equipment. Activate the fuel pump, typically an electric 12V DC pump, to begin transferring fuel from the mobile tank to the machine. Monitor the fueling process and the fuel level of the equipment. Once the refueling is complete, or the desired amount of fuel has been transferred, turn off the pump, carefully remove the nozzle from the equipment's fuel tank, and return the hose and nozzle to their secured position on the truck. The transfer tank itself should be securely fastened to the truck bed using ratcheting tie-down straps or similar restraints to prevent movement during transport.

Goal: Refuel heavy machinery on a job site using a mobile fuel transfer system.

Tools and materials

  • Fuel Hose — Connecting the pump to the fuel nozzle
  • Fuel Nozzle — Dispensing fuel into the equipment's tank
  • Fuel Pump — Transferring fuel from the tank to the equipment
  • Heavy Equipment — The machine requiring fuel (e.g., excavator, skid steer)
  • Mobile Fuel Transfer Tank — Storing and dispensing fuel on-site
  • Pickup Truck — Transporting the mobile fuel transfer tank
  • Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps — Securing the transfer tank and other equipment to the truck bed
  • Diesel Fuel — Powering the heavy equipment
