um you can let us know yeah are we live on your phone we're live on we're not live on my phone um there's we got to make sure we're on our Channel but um we'll see if anybody jumps on so we're going to be talking about what are we talking about tonight it's been a while it's I was just thinking that it's been a real long while since we've been sitting here but you've been busy learning about a product and testing and using product um we got um purple grapes yo purple grapes is hanging out with us tonight so we got some people jumping on hi Daddy um somebody says so people are jumping on um we're going to be talking about uh this is the opportunity to ask us questions about cabinet refinishing so I'm right the middle questions I'm right in the middle of refinishing a bunch of furniture so we're doing some furniture refinishing and we're working on a set of kitchen cabinets also so um we're messing around I've learned some new things um I think learn something very new every time I um do this but learned some new stuff painting furniture and um and so it's your chance to ask us um questions the blue one Chris so somebody saw the um blue Cadets we did Benjamin Moore arber coat would work um for cabinets and Furniture that's interesting not sure on I'd use Arbor coat on the inside but hey yo um Josh daza the best says what's up Weird Science um um so so I could read them and and tell you what people say because you're the one that has all the knowledge to share but also you have some knowledge to share you're always videoing me and so yeah but yeah that that doesn't mean a whole lot but the Centurion wood Coatings that you have been using and you can give somebody's asked a question right there so the two-part something um I will I'll ask that question for you but this is a chance for you to ask questions and Chris has been learning a lot and he'll share what he's learned but also we're going to give away you could hold upir give away two shirts tonight um they're size large so so um Centurian coating shirts are actually super high quality shirts I love them see the back show them the back it's got our logo on the back so right there paint life um so they put our logo on there that's kind of cool we're going to give away two shirts and with each shirt we're going to give away um I didn't know you're going to give away something with this shirt but you're the boss here we go so we're doing two giveaways so you're going to get a large shirt and two gallons of Centon 2800 series 2800 series 2K poly so you'll get a shirt and two gallons two winners so stay with us to see if you're that person and then we're going to give away two gift cards $50 gift cards to paint life Supply Co so um if you didn't know we we do actually have an online store uh paint lives supply.com so you can go check that out um where you can get our pretty cool shirts um hats swags stuff like that so we've got so far you got the sneezers I don't know where that came from you got the sneezers I had so I have I'm going to read the question so you don't have to go like this and squint and show your little I won't go like that and S you can give some shout out to some people but we have four giveaways so stay tuned for those we might have some others toson um oh you know what we can actually give away a brook brush we finally came out with our new brush on the brook named after my oldest daughter so it's our very own line of brushes it came out on her birthday it came out on our birthday made by uh pre beer this is a handmade paint brush by paint paint bus it's not a bus but a brush you you've been painting too much today I'm yeah I'm exhausted yesterday exhausted me from um the furniture that I was doing yesterday and so is is a long day so um I have I have some questions we want to see okay if I can answer them I mean angels with us Joel Ramirez is with us he says what's up Josh Doza is with us Chad turle is with us and Alex Castillo say is with us he says do you prefer oilbased or waterbased when finishing new cabinets 100% water base um I would NE I would almost use never use oil base on anything um inside or outside really ever again um I think um um Benjamin Moore makes a really good product for decks that is oilbased if you live in um climates where there's snow and stuff but uh when it comes to kitchen cabinets hands down water base hands down um two Poes and hands down made in the USA from centuri so I have some questions for you best cabet coats coating I've ever used waterbase is so much easier to use than oilbased or any solvent-based Coatings um they are not flammable they will not explode and they will not blast your client out of their house with strong odors two major um um pluses with water-based coating so we got a lot of questions here so we'll try and just go through and answer the questions but you said it's not flammable um but is there any a little bit hard to ignite water but is there any safety risk when you're catalyzing the two- part um so so if you're using a catalyzer so um they're um yeah so there's um chemicals that you put in the air that um that are that you don't want to breathe you want to wear a mask we mask yeah so when you catalyze the paint so when you're using the paint without it catalyzed you probably should wear a mask but it's not yeah as what happens when you catalyze a paint you put isocyanates in the paint and soat so the isocyanates are actually you put them into the air when you atomize a catalyze paint and you spray it so um so you want to wear a mask so you're not breathing in those isocyanates when you're spraying after you're done spraying it's not an issue so um if you take uh water-based um centurion's water-based 2800 series 2K poly it's a one or 2K if you don't catalyze it um it's not a problem so you can use it straight out of the can and you're not put ISO sinat in there so Charles Miller says so that twart cabinet paint that you guys use can you get that tinted and sent to my address and a color so we um we don't tint it ourselves um so we not yet um not yet we're not set up to tint it but there's Miller Paint so um Miller Paint is where I get it tinted so if you're seeing um the videos the cabinets that I'm actually painting I'm going to Miller Paint and um the Miller Paint locally and Boise is going to be carrying it um in store soon but right now it comes from Portland Oregon they tinted in Port Portland send it over or Spokan and send it over to the Boise store and I pick it up and it usually only takes about two to three days for that to happen it's a very short turnaround time but look um go to crain's website um I always um the website um I always free it's centu I always just type in Centurion cians but I think it's Centurion woodf finishes. comom and just look for your local dealer cuz they are 100% made in the USA another major plus to Centurion Centurion codings is owned by Tom Hiller who started painting out of college and so um and he owns the company but yeah you're pointing there L of question we must have got to get she doesn't like me rambling on so no we want we have a lot of people that want other questions answered so let's go through these David David David Chism on Raw cabinets I Prime with oilbased primer and finish with latex what are your thoughts so um one of the great things about the product that I use a 2800 um series coating it's a self-seal product so your first coat goes on and it seals raw wood and then um your second coat becomes your top coat and if I was doing a raw wood I would seal coat it and then put two top coats after that so you can um your tinted color or say if it's navy blue shoot navy blue on there it's going to dry 4 5 minutes to an hour sand it Sands mechanically fast and easy shoot your next coat and um you'd almost be done right there with two coats but I typically shoot another coat after that you do if you're using any type of wood species that is very grainy like Oak then you'd want to use their 1107 um primer their 1107 primer fills grain so it's an amazing of grain filler and so I always use that if it's raw wood oak or or if it's a repaint a refinish so rawood you don't have to use 11:07 you don't have to use 1107 no um 2800 Series self-seal so Stephen has um like four questions but we'll go four questions what sprayer and spray tip size do you use for cabinets so I use two sprayers so if I'm going HVLP I use um an Apollo Precision 5le I use a 1.5 needle um nozzle set um with the um High solids app and and um if I'm going airless spare one of the great benefits about um Centurion coating's products is their design to be sprayed through an airless sprayer and they are absolutely amazing through an airless sprayer which is basically very simple and easy to use no no worry about thinning ever I actually what tip do you use I actually thicken my paint I use what I found to be the best tip now when it comes to fine finishes on the market um I think hands down trch has got the best fine finish tips now and I use a trch 208 or 308 when I'm spraying okay on C what pressure do you run it at and does that vary depending on the product um it it's so tip and um pressure is going to be dependent on product so um what I'm recommending um triex 208 tip that's for Centurion 2800 series Coatings if I'm using another product say like Advance cuz I've sprayed Advance I've sprayed um Emerald euro thing I sprayed c classic I sprayed a lot of different coatings on cabinets solo all those I would typically use a 310 um a 208 or an 08 um um orphas size is too small for those Coatings but for Centurion super high solids um but the viscosity is thinner sprays amazing through a 208 if you try to spray it through a 310 you're probably going to get runs and sags but I actually thicken um this is um kind of a pro tip I thicken my paint when it comes to Centurian 2800 series I put a why would you do that so I put a I put a tablespoon of thickener per gallon let it set for half hour before I catalyze it and the thickener actually gives it more body it makes it hang a little bit better and gives you more Mill thickness when you spray so do you like I mean why why would they make the paint with thickner in it um every everybody has their own different um style and methods of spraying and so um everybody's um people are using a lot different um um sprayed s out there um air assisted airless HP you would I mean you would want the thicker in h not with an hlp without a doubt so they're kind of there's like a middle ground when you create Coatings CU you don't know what people are using they've really they've really designed their Coatings to be sprayed through an airless sprayer so that was the short answer yep so there is a lot more with us so thank you everybody for being with us today Carlos Monty says he PA painted some cabinets water on water base paint peeled easy what was it not cleaned um water on water Bas so there's a there's a whole um lot of different scenarios say if the cabinets were high gloss um you've got to break that Sheen down and the best way to break that Sheen down especially if you're going just with a latex coating if you're going and I call these um Coatings over-the-counter Coatings like solo proc clastic so a lot of these Coatings don't have very good bonding capabilities and for those Coatings it's it's always best practice I I no matter what you always sand your first coating I clean with Dawn and then I sand mechanically sand with a um 220 sandpaper um with a 3x4 sander that's going to give you a mechanical Bond mechanical bites and that's extremely important if you're getting peeling issues it's all comes down to prep and then product a lot of these products like solo don't get very good bonds they're not really great cabinet coers so with like black a primer like a putting a bonding primer on first like um spraying Ben on there first um uh Centurion makes a product a vinyl um a vinyl sealer and that's a good um it's kind of like Ben slack primer and it also um seals in contaminants so you don't get fish eyes and stuff like that but um also this is one of the major benefits to um Centurion Coatings or 2K poly I catalyze it and one of the major your benefits to catalyzing your product is bonding capabilities I've done tests I've painted a lot of things I've painted uh for M have painted a lot of things with um Cent 2K Poes I got 2K Poes I got a lot of experience with them now spraying on a plastic I've sprayed on for Mica I've sprayed on metal I sprayed on painted wood I sprayed on um varnish I sprayed over lockers I in but you don't you haven't sprayed down tile I'm going to volunteer that for you we we're going to give it a test on a tile floor lot of things I've put it to oh I've sprayed it on thermal foil um cabinet thermal foil cabinets and they came out amazing and every cross-hatch test I've done um catalyze it's on there for good never coming off catalyzing it and I've also sprayed it uncatalyzed and it's far superior to any over-the-counter paint that you'll buy like Emerald Advance um proclassic a lot of these over-the-counter cabinet coatings it blows them away even without um without catalyzing it but catalyzing it hands down the ways to go the way to go but there's some drawbacks to catalyzing that we can talk if people want to know about that then there's cross linking too check out my video on that yeah and well there's going to be a lot more videos coming out about that yes so Alex Castillo says I'm a novice painter thank you for your videos you have made me more confident to spray my woodw so thank you Alex for sharing and for being with us and since you are a novice painter we'd like to give you a $50 gift card to our store how would Alex get that Chris so go to our store is paint life supplyco or paint life supply.com our store is paint life supplyco but go to paint life supply.com down in the right hand corner is the chat how you actually chat with us ask questions and we um answer your questions live um try not to bomb artist with too much stuff but um right there tell us what you want who you are we'll verify it um we're we're going to ask you for your U mailing address and or your email address so we can email your gift card or whatever you want so check us out at paint life supply.com so but did you tell him he needs to go into the chat box and say I want go to chat and put your email we use um down the little right hand corner it's REM it's the how you chat with us live um when you type in something it actually goes I probably shouldn't say where it goes It goes to my phone but he needs to say I won the $50 gift card and give us his email address and then we'll get a virtual card sent to you we here to answer your questions that's why we so Lucas Denley says he's about to start a painting business in calwell awesome whoa cwell that's right down the street so if you come into idah yeah if you come into our store what will we give them if you come into our store what was that what was his name Lucas Denley Lucas if you come into our store we're going to give you a free uh Brook brush of your choice 3 in 2 and 1/2 in or 2 in come in check out our store on State Street in Boise Idaho and what are our hours we're not open very long I think noon to 4: 10 to 4: yes noon to 4 noon to 4 Monday through Friday Monday through Friday noon to 4 is when you can come in yes so om Mar says why don't you use rener anymore so um it's a very good question so quite a while ago I started talking talking about rener and as soon as they started talking about it because I um started using it painting cabinets and started teaching it in my Academy um people started contacting rener and um I started getting bombarded with upset um people cuz rener wasn't answering questions they weren't getting back to people um they were taking a long time to product out and it was making a lot of unhappy people and so um we started our search for a their product you know that would um be of like um similarities I wanted a water-based 2K poly is what I wanted and um because we found out for cabinet repainting that's the way to make money that's the way to get a factory finish we wanted our cabinets to look our repaints or even raw wood that look like it came straight out of a factory and um it cures in how many hours and it8 hours so the renter 2800 series coating cures in8 hours and so so you can turn over your kitchens fast you can stack fast you can put it back together fast and so we eventually discovered um Brian bar roio who is the um the rep for uh Centurion Codi contacted me said you got to try this product he flew out um we went over it tested it um flew out to Centurion Coatings cuz they're literally made in the USA in Texas got to see it manufactured made met um the people that own the company absolutely amazing people um started testing the products absolutely amazing products and I'm big on made in the USA and so um we've everything we've used with them now hands down has been um absolutely amazing so um we had um Tyler and Chelsea say they've been trying to learn more about Centurion all week this would be amazing so I think our first winner of a shirt and two gallons is going to go to Tyler and Chelsea cool Tyler and Chelsea you're going to get yourself a shirt um Centurian coating shirt and two gallons of Centurian and how can they get it so they're going have to go to our store go to paint life supply.com go to the remas button tell us what you want we're going to get your shipping address um mailing address and email and we're going to you know have it shipped out to you so there you go so time goes so fast and with everything going on in the world you know we've made a lot of changes but when I get on the live show and you see familiar names it's like who do you see familiar this time I see Marlo white hey how are you guys doing we're doing great how are you doing so let let us know it's it's nice seeing familiar names yeah give your company a shout out on here on um the chat if you don't chat we don't know you exist so say what's up to us um we'd appreciate it so Tyler who just won and Chelsea he said what's the difference in if you don't catalyze the paint what's the difference if you don't if you just do it right out of the can so here's what here's what catalyzing your paint does catalyzing your paint does number one adds um more bonding capabilities so it's going to bond way better it's going to be more durable it's going to be more scratch resistant Mar resistant and Chip resistant very important with kitchen cabinets it's going to be more water resistant very important with kitchen cabinets vanities and stuff like that so those are some of the major benefits it's more chemical resistance so all these numbers drastically goes up so I had the opportunity to actually talk to um the um the chemist who designed 2800 um series codings I interviewed them did an interview and it's going to be coming out on YouTube it's going to be posted in a week and um so one thing I learned with um their codings is by catalyzing the 2800 Series this would just kind of give you you know how much better it is catalyzing it will make it about 20 times stronger than any over-the-counter coating that you can buy at your um Regular paint stor so it's significantly better so but the chemical resistance is important there's a lot of chemicals underneath you know your kitchen sink that people clean cabinets with do things I mean there's harsh things I mean some of them are simple like simple green and stuff like that you should really only clean your cabinets with Dawn dish soap and warm water but people do all kinds of crazy crazy things so I'm catalyzing it the one of the big things that I noticed um lacers in some of the the jobs that we did the lacquers chip really easy and stuff like that so a um catalyzed coating um the chip resistance is absolutely amazing andโ€ฆ
