What happens here

Before beginning the cutting process, ensure all necessary safety gear, such as a face shield or safety glasses, ear protection, and sturdy work gloves, are worn to protect against flying debris, dust, and loud noise. The paver bricks should be laid out in the desired circular herringbone pattern, and the exact circular cutting line should be clearly marked on the pavers using a chalk line or spray paint. With the cut-off saw (visually similar to a Stihl TS 420 model) started and running at full speed, carefully and steadily guide the diamond blade along the marked circular line. Maintain a firm, two-handed grip on the saw, ensuring stable footing throughout the cut. Apply consistent, but not excessive, pressure, allowing the blade to cut through the paver material without forcing it. The video shows a dry cutting process which generates significant dust; for better results, reduced dust, and blade cooling, use a saw equipped with a water suppression system or have a helper continuously spray water onto the cut line. Continue working around the entire perimeter until the circular inlay is fully separated from the surrounding pavers. After the cut is complete, safely power off the saw, then remove all the waste paver pieces from around the circular inlay and clean up any remaining dust and debris from the work area using a broom and shovel or a leaf blower.

Goal: Achieve a precise circular cut for the paver inlay.

Tools and materials

  • Broom — Cleaning up dust and small debris after cutting
  • Cut-off Saw Stihl — Cutting the paver bricks to form the circular inlay
  • Diamond Blade — The cutting element of the saw, specifically designed for masonry
  • Ear Protection — Protecting hearing from the loud noise produced by the cut-off saw
  • Face Shield — Protecting the eyes and face from dust, debris, and sparks generated during cutting
  • Marking Tool — Drawing the precise circular cutting line on the pavers
  • Shovel — Removing larger waste paver pieces and debris
  • Water Hose / Sprayer — Suppressing dust and cooling the blade during dry cutting
  • Work Gloves — Providing hand protection and enhancing grip on the saw
  • Paver Bricks — The material being cut to form the circular inlay pattern
