Many woodworkers mistakenly believe a saw blade is dull when it starts leaving burn marks or cutting poorly. In reality, the issue is often pitch and resin buildup on the carbide teeth. Prematurely sharpening a blade that only needs cleaning is wasteful, as each sharpening reduces the blade's overall lifespan, typically allowing only four to six sharpenings before it becomes too small to be useful.

Goal: Learn why saw blade performance degrades and how proper cleaning can prevent unnecessary sharpening and extend tool life. Often, a 'dull' blade is simply a dirty one.
