BASE COURSES IN on this residential resort in the making. #hardscape
What happens here
After the first course of blocks is laid, a geogrid is installed. The video shows this black, mesh-like material laid directly over the top of the blocks and extending backward into the area that will be backfilled. The speaker explicitly states it gets "sandwiched in between our courses" and "rolled back into the backfill," indicating that subsequent layers of blocks will be placed on top of it, securing it in place. This reinforcement is vital for structural integrity, especially for walls that will be "holding up a whole lotta weight."
Goal: Provide enhanced structural stability to the retaining wall by tying it into the soil mass.
Tools and materials
- Geogrid — Reinforcing the soil mass behind the retaining wall, providing structural stability
- Utility Knife — Cutting the geogrid to the appropriate length
