hey folks this is Josh Tony orig farmer welcome to the farm blog today well cut the hay we raked the hay now we got to bail - hey and we got weather coming in so I've got to get down and boogie I got a move to this go ahead and hook up the John Deere baler to John Deere 385 baler John Deere 50 65 tractor we're gonna get rockin with bailing this hay okay so I hope you enjoy the video you're gonna get some cool drone footage hopefully I can get the GoPro attached to this thing some kind of way you can get some footage we can get this hay bailed up before of that rainstorm right there comes in there's a rainstorm coming it says we're about two and a half hours out I got about 25 acres of hay to bail I don't think I'm gonna make it I don't have a Tedder to kick this stuff back out so if it gets wet it gets ruined not cool not cool I can go back over it with a rake again and turn it hopefully if it does rain it only rains a little bit and I can still use the hay we're using it for cows and goats so it's not that big a deal but I got some work to do so I'm going I got to get busy you get this thing hooked up I'll let you guys watch [Music] I don't have a moisture meter hydraulic line I have to run over the fender to the bucket control because I don't have two sets of hydraulics on the back of this tractor Golic line for the tire it sends the string out and I got a hydraulic line that opens the back of the baler and you'll get to see that in the drone please one final thing we got to hook up is the PTO shaft okay so the PTO shaft weighs about 65 pounds and it's really cumbersome to get hooked up and it all has to line up just perfect and it's not lining up just perfect let's get on my nerves these are my gloves that I used to hook this stuff up and you can see they're just who we doing gross with grease if you don't have a set of gloves on your tractor you got to hook this three-point stuff up or you better hook this stuff up PTO shafts you're just gonna get covered in grease and I don't want to be covered in grease I've already got diesel fuel all over me one thing we got to do is we got to fill this tire up right here this tire rides along the ground while the little grabbers underneath pick up the hay okay and you'll get a better shot of that in fact I'll take you down here and show you now it's right underneath here is the apparatus that picks up the hay and those little tiny little metal rides will run along the ground and scoop a up and throw it up into the baler and the baler has all these belts in it this belt system and all those belts just keep turning and tightening and rolling and tightening and then when it comes time for us to tie the string there's a string feeder right there and that thing crosses all the way over and there's a meter right here that tells you it crosses all the way to that side and then it goes back to the other side and then it automatically cuts the string and your bales all wrapped up and ready to go now if you'll remember in the previous blog when I was raking the page I was concerned about the hay rake not rolling it tight enough windrow and this is what happened see the baler went right through there and left two little stripes of grass this makes a whole lot more work for me I'm gonna get you up here on the tractor and show you what's going on okay all right so we're gonna get started right here mowing and I want to show you the baler so that's the PTO shaft turning and up here those two little lines are meters that tell me whether I'm getting too heavy or too much hay on one side or the other and the meter to the right is a meter it tells me how full the baler is getting and I'll get you another shot of that we're getting ready to dump see the baler is almost full that red mark is where it's full and we're running the tire right now and you look down the center of your screen you see this thing moving and you may have to watch it a couple times but look to the right bottom of the baler and you'll see the tire the strings coming through those two arms just went underneath and then we just dumped about let's brain it rain beat us hopefully it's only going to rain just a little bit here and we can get back to it something's wrong with the tire on the baler you got crossed up some kind of way having a lot of issues with that tire I don't know why it's the part that slings the string into the hay bale so walking back to the house it's just sprinkling rain think I'm I think I'm tired I think I'm done but I got to get back out here hopefully this is just a little quickie shower couple sprinkles and then I'll get back on it so guys thanks a lot for watching Stoney Ridge farm I appreciate you thanks kicking my butt a lot of pain in the butt with the hay this season I don't understand I been trying to do everything right keep everything lubricated and keep everything right and I'm just getting one thing after another it's not the equipment it's the weather thanks a lot guys we'll see you next time on Stoney Ridge farm I appreciate you whoo I made a mystery' [Music]
