Another highlight of 2024, building my dream shop!!

What happens here

The first major construction task shown is the installation of windows into the framed openings of the shed's walls. Two workers collaborate: one worker from the exterior lifts and pushes a pre-assembled window through the opening to a worker inside the structure. The windows appear to be standard double-hung vinyl windows, commonly used for outbuildings. Once passed through, the interior worker carefully positions the window. Although not explicitly detailed in the sped-up video, standard practice involves shimming the window to ensure it is perfectly plumb and level within the rough opening, then fastening it securely through the nailing flange to the wall studs. Proper sealing with caulk or flashing is also crucial for weatherproofing.

Goal: Securely fit and install windows into the shed's framed wall openings.

Tools and materials

  • Level — Ensuring the windows are installed perfectly horizontal and vertical
  • Measuring Tape — Checking dimensions and verifying window placement
  • Nail Gun — Rapidly fastening windows to the framing
  • Pre-assembled Windows — Providing light and ventilation to the shed interior
  • Shims — Leveling and plumbing the windows within the rough opening
  • Exterior-Grade Sealant/Caulk — Sealing gaps around the window to prevent water and air infiltration
  • Fasteners — Securing the window frame to the rough opening
