And then round two of sand.

What happens here

After spreading joint sand (often polymeric sand) over the paver surface and ensuring it is swept into all the gaps, use a vibratory plate compactor to settle the sand deeply into the joints. Guide the compactor slowly and evenly across the entire paved area. Make sure to overlap each pass to ensure thorough compaction. The vibration from the compactor will consolidate the sand, filling all voids within the joints, not just the top layer. This creates a strong interlock between pavers, preventing shifting, erosion of sand, and future weed growth. This process also helps to seat the pavers firmly into their base.

Goal: Fully fill and consolidate paver joints with sand using a compactor.

Tools and materials

  • Dust Mask — Protecting the respiratory system from inhaling fine sand dust
  • Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from the loud noise generated by the compactor
  • Rubber Compactor Pad — To protect paver surfaces from scratches or chips during compaction
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from dust and debris kicked up by the compactor
  • Vibratory Plate Compactor WACKER NEUSON — Compacting and settling sand into paver joints
  • Polymeric Sand — Filling the gaps between pavers to lock them in place and prevent weed growth
