Airless Spraying Tip Guards! Spraying with The Idaho Painter.

this paint live tv i'm chrissy idaho painter in this video i'm going to be talking about tip guards and specifically a question i keep getting asked a lot and what is the difference between g threads 7 8 tip guards and f thread 11 16 tip guard so if you want to know and what tips go along with specific guards stay tuned for this video [Applause] [Music] all right here we go we're going to talk about the difference in the threads on these two different style guards we've got an f thread and a g thread g thread is 7 8 f thread is 11 16. you can refer to it either by letter or by number they correspond you know back and forth with each other i've got a gun right here this is a fairly new um or brand new titan rx pro gun this has your standard g thread 7 8 g thread and nowadays almost all guns that i've ever seen i have haven't seen a gun made that has um f 11 16 threads in i don't know like over 20 years all the guns i got i got multiple manufacturers from graco to titan to dp airless to spray tac to uh i mean multiple other different manufacturers i have and every single gun has a g thread 7 8 thread gun on it and so that's going to be the standard guard that you'll probably be using if you have a really old gun you might be getting an f 11 16 thread but here's a gun right here this is a g threaded gun right here now i can take all these guards i've got a graco iraq 5 guard right here i've got a graco rack x guard i've got a titan standard high performance guard and i've got an older model titan guard and i've got two bedford guards right here i really like these guards from bedford right here they cost significantly less than other guards bedford manufactures not oem products but products that meet all the specifications of oem products and they're significantly cheaper in price and so i use their guards so i got a g threaded guard right here from bedford and it's marked right on the thing it says g thread 7 8 threaded on there so this g thread will thread onto any new standard gun that you'll find probably across the world right here so there's your g threaded guard threaded right on there 7 hd thread now i can take all these other guards and the question i get is uh quite often on my um platform or at my store is will my great go tips and guards work on a titan gun or any other gun so here's a graco gun if you have a 7 8 threaded g-threaded guard it's going to thread onto your gun no matter what manufacturer it is and that's the standard so it screws on there so that's a graco rack five guard this is a graco rack x guard screws right on there they're all gonna screw on to that guard i can put my my bedford guard on here's the thing um that you'll want to know i could take a bedford guard and bedford doesn't sell sprayers they sell all kinds of parts for sprayers and tips i can take a rack 5 tip it's going to go into a bedford guard and function and work properly i can take here's a tritech tip this is from tritech airless sprayers their guns have seven hg threads on them also that will work in there i can take a titan he a tip that's going to work and they're just fine into this g-threaded 7hd threaded guard so depending on how i want it to shoot there it's set up right there so just to show you now i can take this off now this is the one kicker i have a graco rack x guard right here it's g thread it's going to thread right on there and this is where people ask me well will my graco or my titan gun you know use graco products you can screw a graco rack x guard on there but it has to have a rack x tip to go along with it you cannot take a rack guard and put tips from any other manufacturer in there they are proprietary guards and tips they will not line up it will not seat in their property and it will not work even graco rack five tips graco wrap five tips will not work in a rack x guard and that's probably the reason why orr is the reason why i highly recommend you do not purchase and use rack rack x guards this is the graco blue guard because you're very limited to what you can use you are limited to only using graco rack x tips you can buy a graco rack five guard have their guard use graco rack five tips which they're black tips these are rack five tips this is going to go right into a graco rack five guard it's gonna work just fine if you have a great go rack five guard you can throw a tritep tri-tech tip in there it's gonna work just fine you can throw titan in there you can throw bedford bedford makes their tips too and so you can take most guards almost all guards that are seven eights g threaded guards screw them on your gun and you can just about use any tip out there in that guard but you're always gonna be limited if you have this guard right here so i've got a bedford guard right here i use bedford guards and bedford tips their tips are significantly less and they last just as long as any other tip out there and they're all made in the usa 100 percent made in the usa so this is a 7 8 guard now i've got 11 16 guard right here this is a f threaded 11 16 guard show you right here now this you're gonna see the difference between an 11 16 and a 7 8 guard so here's the difference between an 11 16 and a 7 8 and i'll give you a close-up look at this uh 11 16 guard is going to be significantly inside diameter significantly smaller you can see it by eye if you have both of them in front of you but you may not have that luxury to have both of them in front of you now i know the 11 16 guns made quite a while ago really old guns will have 11 16 thread there may be guns manufactured brand new somewhere else in the world that have 11 16s i've never seen one and so this is part of what this video is about i'm going to show you a simple little trick on how to identify your gun what thread you have if you don't have a guard in front of you and you need to know which one to buy so significantly smaller diameter and you can't mess it up because it will not screw on there it simply simply will not fit on there and screw on if you had an 11 16 gun threaded gun the gun the g thread is just going to slide on and off and it won't even thread on there so it's not going to work it won't work either way so this is significantly far smaller and it will not fit on there now one way to simply identify this if you don't have the guard but you or you don't have the gun but you need to order a guard is take a penny this is a u.s penny copper penny stick it over your guard the face of your diffuser right here and the outer edge of the penny is going to line up with the outer edge of the smooth part of your diffuser right here and it's just almost the identical diameter right there if it's the penny is the same size as the diameter of your diffuser well then you got g thread 7 8 threads on your gun now some of you may ask well i've got g thread a g threaded gun well um 7 8 g thread and i got a tip this tip will go into this g thread right here what if i have a f threaded 11 16 gun can i use all these tips on a f threaded 11 16 gun so you can the only difference between these guards is the threads on them and them threading onto a gun so now this would thread onto this bedford guard would thread on to an f-threaded 11 16 gun and any tip is going to go into that guard so you can run i guess i got to clarify that not any tip that's back to the kicker a graco rack x tip will not fit in either of these guards it simply won't fit in any standard guards out there the diameter of this tip is a lot bigger now my suspicion is graco did that so you would have to only buy their tips and guards together and you couldn't cross use them and so it's making a proprietary product that you can't use with anybody else's product the one thing nice i gotta say about this guard is this guard actually when you turn it and to spray it locks itself into place and it does not come out so if your guard is not tightened onto your gun you'll very tightly if you turn a gun the tip's not going to fall out and that is you know a plus if you have a brand new tip um i'll take a brand um see if one's got a seat in it this one's got a seat but it's not brand new and it may stay in there titan guards they do not lock in the titan guard so i'll put a tip in there and i'll see if it'll fall out if i turn it upside down once they've been used a few times they usually are snug in there so that's not that's snug in there but it will you can actually pull it out when it's in the spray position it does not lock into place so there's no locking mesh mechanism that keeps it locked into place so that is one of the benefits to this guard but still i would stick to a non-proprietary guard that way i can use you know any tip that i want to use with the gun itself so there you have it the difference between an f thread and a g thread hopefully i answered your question you know about threads here now i got tips of multiple videos and videos that go in
