A Painter's Tool Worth Buying! Small but MIGHTY Tools.

this christy idaho painter here on paint live tv today i got a project we're going to be starting this is a commercial project that we've been contracted to do i've got this um kind of pukey orange pukey yellow right here that's they want to get rid of they want it to match the gray right here um and there's all kinds of grays on this side this is what happens when your color match goes wrong we're gonna show you a simple little tool the nyx color matching tool that syncs with an iphone how you can get a color match to this so we can paint that so it matches that so it doesn't look all blotchy like this so if you want to see how this little tool simple little 99 tool works stay tuned for this video [Applause] [Music] all right so here we go we've got uh this block wall right here we've got to color match in the knicks this is a little nix mini 2 device it has an app on my phone i've already downloaded on the phone all right so here's my phone right here i'm just going to click on the app it the app opens up it's going to say connect to nics right here i want to have the nix close to me you want to have bluetooth enabled on your phone because it uses bluetooth to communicate i'm gonna have it close by it says it's connecting to the nix and eventually it's gonna tell you whether it found the next it says connected says device found it's calibrated lights flash battery tells me what my battery level is 82 percent so now i'm connected i'm going to hit close and it says get started and um it's very simple and easy to use this thing is absolutely amazing now um another thing i'm going to do is i'm going to tell this what fan decks i wanted to select from and so before even doing a color match i'm just there's a little little paint bucket icon up here in the top right hand corner and i've got a whole list of fan of companies i can choose from and this thing is actually connected to all the major fan decks over the entire world and so i'm selecting the united states you can select other regions across the world but i selected united states and now i can just scroll through all the major fan decks in the united states and i only want ones that are nearby me and ones that i'll possibly be using paint for so i selected benjamin moore i'm going to select that's one of the companies uh there's a done edited words near me i'll select done edwards and so i'm going to scroll down miller paint there's millipen and rada and i'm going to select those paint companies because one of those i'm going to use their product for and um and then i'm going to exit out of that and then there's a little option down here says scan with nyx it's that simple i'm going to try to find a side on here that doesn't have um a lot of dirt on it it does it's kind of is smooth there's some sides that are smoother less bumpy i don't want any of these holes and stuff so i'm gonna select probably a spot right about here just going to put my next there's a little color i right there put the nicks right over to the top of that smooth spot and i'm going to hit scan are you enjoying the video so far are you finding it helpful hit the subscribe button hit the notification bell that way you'll get notified every time we come out with more of this free content and now let's get back to the video now one thing you want to keep in mind i've just scanned my surface and it's given me a list of matches and it starts at the top and it'll say excellent matches and as you scroll down you're going to see good matches and then i'm going to keep scrolling down there's quite a few different match options so i got excellent and good now keep in mind that you know your phone screen probably is not true color there could be a lot of variables involved with the phone screen i've got a screen over the top of my screen that's a uv protector and um and then i have the light you know turned down on my screen quite a bit and so that does affect color but if i've got multiple colors in my excellent match yo shows up and you don't think you know it's very close you know you'll just get it up here start scrolling through and try to find the one out of your excellent or good matches that closely resembles your um your surface right here if you don't have a fan deck yo to verify against you know then um you just go by you know the knicks itself and i'm just going to scroll through here when i tested it this time it came up with no excellent matches were found but it found you know good matches and there's going to be a lot of variables once again this surface is extremely aged there's a lot of dirt a lot of oxidization so those things do affect the effectiveness effectiveness of the nix but it came up with an option i'm scrolling down here i'm looking at it i'm getting my screen at a good angle where i can verify i'm scrolling through here and i see a color essential gray of all these i've scrolled through i think essential gray probably matches it the best he's swanky gray or essential gray so you can use that as an option um you can if you do have a color or a color fan deck you can verify that with your color fan deck let me show you a color fan deck here's the color fan deck and this is a sherwin williams fan deck if i didn't have a knicks and i just had a fan deck i'm going to hold this fan deck up against my surface like this i'm going to start to figure out i see a lot of this is gray but i see a lot of red in this gray see one right here and i like to take two fingers cover up my swatch press my swatch up against the surface i'm going to hold it up there proper gray looks pretty close essential gray almost looks dead on so the knicks came up with a good match of essential gray and so when i verified it with a fan deck so it's good to go one of the nice things about having a knicks is you don't have to have all these things piled up you know in your vehicle they're super heavy they take up a lot of room nobody wants to have 20 fan decks in their vehicle it's nice to have a knicks and something very small easy that just goes in your pockets but there was essential gray is probably the color we're going gonna be using there it is it's the nyx mini two um nyx mini two the simple and easy way to color match your siding now we're gonna take this get this color match i'm gonna be probably painting this wall right here
