(19,999 characters)the cameras and stuff yeah we're going to see it for the first time all right Tim and I are going to go see what they put on the back of Tim's Truck neither of us have seen it at this point oh we need masks I didn't even bring one shut the front door I didn't bring one really I think I got an old I think I got an old hanky you could wrap around your face all right now we're ready to go in guys like you and I need masks Anyway come morning I have never used anything like that them so these guys build trucks truck bodies here assemble them so they take the chassis then they take other frames and put them on hey what snow plow is that one that is a Monroe I have never seen that look at that thing that is a beefy dog for sure holy cow got a few plows ready for the season them as fast as we can so have you seen the new uh drag Pro just on the back of your truck that's the first one that's the one there they are where Dr bro yeah that's the old that's the old old school one they've changed the design yeah the the new non 180z or is it called a 180z that's what it's called right Le so yeah hey I forgot your first name I'm John nice to meet you John cor fish pump Rick how you doing buddy Corona fist bump good to see you guys this is Rick he's actually the guy that originally created the very first snow power right that's correct I mean you're the guy you're the infamous snow power guy and you you got you know Tim Rick Tim Rick all right so here she is wow that is a gorgeous setup dude look at what they did to the to the frame back here they gusseted that up that looks beefy Rick did they what did they change oh man all for the good uh good to see you in Reverse in in regards to snow power versus this yes what's the differences for sure oh man their ears were listening okay this isn't really changed I think the drag had this but I love this when it's open this isn't Square so it goes along The Cutting or along the bank and everything can cut okay in our hinge area we didn't have a real good solid stop so they have I we're talking 38 or/ in stop both sides if you look down here you can see it's in right now and this is a stop where was your stop our stop was like two squares and the hinge had to be welded exactly right and then it was too fine it was too hard to FB fac okay so they put it out here and it's just built right in and look how far it goes back into the plow and the wing so the hinge now is on the outside back corner yeah and the stops just okay now on the on the snow power you were flush before right so yeah we we have two flats and and it would sit in there like this and then as it went our cut has to be just right for it to hit it was just really hard to get it right okay and that also put us to the Bell crank here we had a turnbuckle right here so we could adjust it because we wanted to make sure we were hitting our stops and because our stops weren't precise like this so they were able with their Engineers to make this all solid so it just bolts in now did you help them design this kind of this is almost like the snow power version 2.0 with the upgrades and all the little tweaks that you wanted to see done is that true or not I don't know Rick I'm literally asking design it but what I told them what I wanted to make better and then they ran with it and then I went up I think six times looking at it last year uh they're just announcing now but this happened last year let's introduce John John is actually the engineer that worked on this right you're one of the guys that you you went off from Rick's original design and then you started to modify it and then every time you had a question you would call Rick in and then you guys would work together and then you had whole team building this brand new version am I right right or wrong so as we were coming out with our previous drag Pro product last year when we came to Market with that um the snow power product actually came out at a similar time and we saw what Rick was doing with his hitch design and we kind of scratched our heads and thought Oh I don't know about that and as the winter went on we realized that you could uh probably hook up a lot of beefier plow to that it's a lot stiffer than having distinct under carriages for every vehicle like we had yeah so we were very interested in it that's what started the conversation okay so this is new though so the snow power hooks directly into the fifth rail system so you got to have that on your truck and it also hooks into the hitch the other uh Back Drag plows that we've used actually just hook into the hitch plus they have a little bit more hitch but they don't have all of this but my understanding is not a single hole was drilled on this truck to do this install that's right this particular truck has a fifth wheel Puck system which you pull the covers out and drop that reent right in turn a couple levers and that's it so that's an option on trucks that people can order so these guys just so these guys know if you're not familiar with that what they do is they run a cable they probably have it zip tied up underneath the truck all the way to the battery so there's no did you have to drill through the firewall at all John when you do these installs do you know most of the time during installs you can find a grommet to fit through but if not we Supply ground in the control kits you can D drill a small hole okay so so now besides a really good place to step up and down what the heck is this thing for well that's just the the coupler pin housing um probably don't recommend using that as a step but uh if you do I would put some grip tape on there just to make it safe cuz it's going to be slick it's going to be slickery when that builds up with snow and ice Tim seriously though we probably should make a cuz guys are going to they're going to that's a slickery spot you know they're going to naturally step on it and they're going to wear all of our instructions off too we also have uh standard work lights here that can be adjusted to shine light out at the wings so that you can see in your mirror when you're looking behind you where are my wings at M we've got blade guides on the ends of the Wings we have holes here to add additional blade guides if you want to I know that some guys like to mount four absolutely yes that would be one of those things that uh you'll be Sur surprised at how nice a wing guide back here actually is cuz you start to as you're driving you get this you ever get this weird paranoia Rick when you're driving you're like are my wings out are my wings in cuz you know if you're going 30 m an hour down a residential Road and you bump that I just keep thinking yeah I don't recommend having a dog in the front seat wiped out on the highway with the dog get down pressure so oh really so keep keep control of your switches but yeah when you're really tired I always hit the switches to make sure the wings are in it doesn't hurt the pump to momentarily draw it in reflective tape which I love I did not have this so when you're in your mirror that light hits it and you can see it in the snow a lot better do our do our other plows have the solid moldboards on the inside I think so Rick do your snow powers have the solid mboards on the inside no they're not no we got yeah this is different they have a smooth inside yeah where we have all of our structure on the inside and their horsepower is on the back side yeah actually I don't want to insult you Rick but I think that's better cuz you're going to you're doing more pulling than you do with pushing and this is where we get a lot of snow sticking and right here is where at least we've noticed that we get a lot of snow bound up in this corner that's right and we can never get that wing it colle yeah it was icy i' always got cold wet snow got cold F I always chip it out there cuz I don't want to damage the exactly the way that just design you know one of the things John that a lot of people have said to me over the years is like oh you're going to wear out your reverse gear we've got how many trucks with snow with three two four now three we've been plowing with regularly we've got zero issues with our reverse how many reverse problems have you had I just want to know I'm not trying to put these guys down a little bit on the reverse band on a Dodge but I've been pushing reversed since the ' 80s late ' 80s it's not an issue it's not an issue okay old poock picks up a few things after 40 Years of running equipment very nice and he did mention it but the fork pockets is very nice this is where a camera can go oh yeah look at Rick thinking well it's not me but I got to give do or is you can hook that right into your backup camera as wellos I don't know maybe I think there is a kit to do that I don't know but okay my understanding they've got them parked Side by each in the back oh it's a cold morning out let's just drive out all right so guys we've got the brand new boss Drag Pro 180z here and we've got the new and improved boss drag PE over here and compared to this hitch system so we've got a fifth rail hitch system here so what we have on the traditional drag Pros is a dedicated undercarriage for every application so whereas the fifth wheel rail hitch over there is universal this one you need to have specific undercarriages for certain trucks okay and this is going to be the same for any of the other Back Drag blades that are out there right now uh snow power and you are the only one that use the fifth rail system yep and this one actually you can lift the entire system straight out of the that's right so what are what we think uh most people will do is leave the hitch in the truck at all times so we allow you to disconnect the plow right here so there's a switch that will allow you to lift the plow out drive away and keep the hitch in the truck if for some reason you need to use the bed of your truck during the winter you can easily remove this by pulling the four pins on the fifth wheel rail system and the plow will actually lift it the hitch out and you can drive away from underneath it so it's up to you if you want to do it's easier to attach and reattach here if you can leave the hitch in your bed but if you need it out it's not a problem pull the pins and lift it out and so as we look at these two a couple things that I want to to look at is the stop system so now this actually has a hydraulic relief forward and backward on these wings so it doesn't even have shear pin anymore that's correct they don't even exist on this unit Wings rotate 180° and you can see on the hinge system here which is very robust that we have these hard mechanical stops here and also here when it spins all the way around 180° so the cylinder will push it all the way to the stops and then dump over relief so no shear pins if the wing is out and you hit something in either the forward or the reverse direction it'll drive over relief and swing the wing back and out of the way it looks like you beefed up the back end of it too the the entire framework all through for the plow itself yep the the coupler is very very tough um and our attachment pins too um again boss users will recognize these components they're the same as what we use on our 10t heavyduty front mounted plows so old design very well proven out very robust um we've got big beefy lift and lower stops here for when the plow is lifted all the way up or dropped all the way down so when you're plowing in reverse and you hit something this is the structure that's going to take that that hit that looks like a a thicker Center Bar too this plate here yeah yep it's half in um half in steel allows the plow to flex a little bit back and forth when it's pulled up tight to the stops for transport it's very rigid and won't move at all but if you drop it down it lets the plow float a little bit side to side so now let's talk about fundamentally what this means to use snow plow guys boss offers two different versions of a Back Drag plow now John I'm hazarding a guess that this really would be more meant for commercial applications hardcore you know the guys that go out and and they plow giant lots and they just that's what they got to do where you're still offering the drag Pro with but it's fundamentally built different and that's maybe more for residential applications or lighter commercial work and guys that don't plan on pushing in Reverse correct um and so that's the advantage here because you still have shear pins over there and you still have some of the older components but you also have updated this entire thing you listen to all the problems guys were having and you've changed that design as well yeah we did okay see some of those changes yeah I'd love to see some of those changes all right so couple of the things that we did um we had some cracking due to some heavy use in the lift cylinder area okay so we beef this up brought the steel up and all the way around welded all the way around both sides and really toughen that up um so that modification was obviously this cou piece here another thing that we saw is our lift stops here used to have a sharp edge so it would chip the paint you get some rusting you'd even get some denting of this tube customers weren't happy with that we weren't happy with that so we added this this round formed piece to be a lot nicer stop uh what else did we do on this cross brace we had simply cross drilled holes with the bolt through we saw some egging out and in the worst cases some tearing so now we have a piece of tube on the inside welded to uh give you a more bearing area across the entire bowt instead of just the two sidewalls now there's a tube welded on the inside so on all four corners we extended the stroke on the cylinder just a bit to allow it to push um cuz right on the previous design it would extend to close the wing to 90° but then there' be a little bit of slop in there and customers didn't like that perception the wing would waver a little bit while driving yes that drives me nuts so the cylinder now pushes out a little bit longer and there is a a real tough urethane block that we inserted in here so you push it and you actually squeeze that with the cylinder and it takes that sloppiness out so when you're transporting down the road the wing isn't flopping around anymore it this this block is pushing back out against it I want to show these guys the cylinder though this yeah very large I believe the rod diameter is 70 mm so big tough this is this is the biggest toughest back rig plow I've seen yet yep I also want to point out that we put this cylinders on the front side of this one and we did that for numerous reasons it keeps the back clean allows you to back up closer cylinders are back there you need to cylinders are in here fundamental difference there's another nice side benefit for putting them in here and that is cylinders end up leaking eventually when the rod gets damaged so if it gets a chip in the in the Chrome or rust it'll cut the seal and that's what causes cylinders leaking yep so on this guy in the transport position where it's going to see the most of view the rod is retracted into the cylinder at all times so it's protected whereas see this this is transport position y cylinders sealed transport position cylinders exposed the rods exposed bit so the trade-off is that inside you're going to get some dirt thrown on it from the tires we think that this is definitely the Lesser two evils compared to the benefits that you get because the cylinder is technically closed and protected by the actual housing itself so that's a good important point is the are the mle boards the same or is there a different not the same they're not the same n this one is a lot heavier a lot beefier than this one this is cool I don't know about you guys but what excites me the most about this entire thing is the fact that you can now get a snow power boss Drag Pro it's like snow power 2.0 but you're getting the snow power service centers like Rick no offense but Rick stand in here but you know that that was one of the things that always worried us Bryson was amazing remember when we had a problem with a snow power Bryson had not one part but two parts out to us the next day but they may not know Bryson and they may know they got a boss dealer three blocks away and now boss can help these guys get back in business that much faster absolutely boss's horsepower is second nothing yeah and their service I'm going to say this boss actually people probably don't know this but when I first started out I bought a boss vlow leveraged everything I had to buy it I was so proud of it was like 5 six grand that's a lot of money when you know you 5 six grand is like you you're counting every meal to save up to get that and I ripped the mboard in half I hit a speed bump and it was just tored off and I'm like a young buck and I'm thinking oh my God I'm ruined I can't afford to buy this I brought it into boss with my head down and you know what they did repl it no questions asked and after that I was like there this is this there's something good about it and now these guys can get a heavyduty Back Drag plow or a lighter Duty one depend on what their application is remember guys commercial hardcore you're going to work this thing day and night you're not going to rip out a shear pin you there is zero shear pins on it you're going to pay more for this but you're also going to at the end of the day you're going to take your boots off go to bed and not have anything to worry about and we're not saying you're going to have that with this one but this one is a lighter Duty application it's more residential possibly like commercial you do have shear pins on it um they have made some improvements to them go ahead yeah you bring up a good point with the shear pins so we listened to our customers um we also heard uh complaints about people shearing more pins than they wanted to yeah and found out that they were not using the direct length bolts so we want to remind everyone that it's a 5- in grade 2 bolt it's fight in the manual grade two grade two sorry grade five you're this is important to know it's a grade two bolt because what happens is if you put a grade five or a grade eight you could potentially damage this housing right here I'm going to guess is what guys were doing when they were doing it that's right right here they were getting that tear the point is you want the bolt to fail in the event that the wing hits something and you're coming all the way back against the stop otherwise you're going to do more expensive damage right we did in inrease the relief valve setting substantially though so it holds a lot better it doesn't fold back as easy as it did before Oh that's another modification that we made CU customers wanted the wings to hold and not swing back quite as easily all right Tim can you show us your new controller where's Tim so you've played with this controller now for about 5 minutes how is it I haven't seen it yeah you guys honestly I have not seen this so there it is all right so you got your up and down so let's say you're driving along and you want to just have it go up tap it twice okay want to go float now you say you want some down pressure If you hit it lift you off the ground Okay so and then Wing out and Wing in just like the uh get my bearings here that'll be this side I think before we go though we should learn how to take this apart yeah I don't know if we want to be on more LC ground yeah let's go inside where our our nose pickers are going to freeze off from our hands cuz it's only like 17° today so that disengages there and then you can lift it out of the way here hey mine's not wait a minute we got one red tab on that side there you go keep going okay so this is what you look all right thanks Tim so this is what it looks like with that Detachment method but there's one more yep all…
