Measure and Cut Carpet — Step 3: Measure the Width for a Stylish Fit
Part of project
how to measure your stairs for carpet treads · Step 3 of 4
In this video
Measure the width of the stair tread from stringer to stringer (e.g., 36 1/8 inches) and the depth from the nose to the back riser (e.g., 13 inches). To allow for trimming and a snug fit, cut the carpet pieces slightly larger than these measurements (e.g., 37 inches wide by 14 inches deep). Use a utility knife and a straight edge to ensure clean, straight cuts. You will need one carpet piece per tread.
