Once measurements are taken and marked on the stair treads, use a miter saw to precisely cut them to the required width and depth. Ensure that the cuts are straight and clean for a professional finish. If the treads have a carpeted or fabric surface, you may need a sharp utility knife to score or cut through that material first, or ensure your saw blade is specifically designed for such materials to cut cleanly without fraying.
