For consistent placement of your carpet treads, measure a 4-inch 'wood reveal' from the wall on each stair. This means the distance from the wall to the inside edge of where the carpet tread will be placed should be 4 inches. Once measured, take a continuous piece of painter's tape and run it down the staircase, aligning its inner edge with your 4-inch mark. This tape will act as a visual guide to ensure all your carpet treads are installed in a straight and aligned manner.

Install day. Let's make this easy. Grab your painters tape. Let's do a little bit of measuring and then you're ready to put your carpet stair treads down on your staircase. If you recall, we have a 4 inch wood reveal. That means from the wall to the inside of the tape, that will be 4 in. Once you measure this, you take one continuous piece of tape, you run it down your staircase, and then you simply put your treads on on the inside of each stair.
