For stair treads that are open on one side (next to a wall stringer), use a multi-tool to cut a notch or a 'return' piece where the tread meets the stringer. This allows for a clean, professional finish without needing excessive filler. Shape the remaining piece as needed to ensure a perfect fit with the previously installed riser and stringer.
