Steps
Identify Grout Type
5 minutesBefore applying any cleaning solution, it's crucial to identify the type of grout you have. Cement-based grout is porous and more common in older homes or standard tile installations. Epoxy grout is non-porous and more resistant to stains, often found in high-moisture areas like bathrooms. This identification will dictate the strength of the cleaning solution and tools you can use.
Inspect and Repeat if Necessary
10 minutesOnce the grout is dry, inspect it closely. If there are still stubborn stains or areas that appear dirty, repeat the cleaning and scrubbing process (Steps 2-5) on those specific sections. For very difficult stains on cement-based grout, a commercial grout cleaner specifically designed for tough stains might be necessary.
Seal the Grout (Optional but Recommended)
30 minutesAfter the grout has been thoroughly cleaned and is completely dry, apply a grout sealer using a small brush or applicator. Work in thin, even coats, following the product's instructions. This step is crucial for porous cement-based grout to prevent future staining and make cleaning easier.
