Steps
Cut Carpet Treads
45 minutesLay your carpet material flat and use the recorded measurements to mark the dimensions for each tread. Use a sharp utility knife or carpet shears to cut out each tread precisely. If your treads have a lip, ensure you account for that in your measurements and cuts.
Watch: Measure and Cut Carpet TreadApply Adhesive
30 minutesDepending on the type of carpet tread or adhesive system you are using, apply the adhesive evenly to the back of each cut carpet piece or to the surface of the stair tread. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for application, ensuring full coverage without excessive pooling.
Watch: Peel First Adhesive StripInstall Carpet Treads
60 minutesStarting from the back of the stair tread and working forward, carefully align the carpet tread with the edge of the stair. Once positioned, press down firmly, ensuring good contact between the carpet tread and the stair surface. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles.
Watch: Secure Treads to StairsAllow Adhesive to Cure
1440 minutesOnce all carpet treads are installed, allow the adhesive to cure fully. This typically takes 24-72 hours, depending on the type of adhesive used and environmental conditions. Avoid walking on the stairs or placing heavy objects on them during this period.
Watch: Final Curing and Caulking
