Carpet Stair Covers

Walk your staircase and count every single step you want to cover. Don't forget any landings! Each surface you count will need its own tread. This total number ensures you have everything you need for a seamless, beautiful installation without any last-minute surprises.

Using a tape measure, find the depth of a single stair tread—that's the flat part you step on. Measure from the very front edge (or 'bullnose') straight back to where the tread meets the riser (the vertical panel). Accurate measurements here are key to achieving that custom-made fit.

With your tape measure, measure the full width of your stair tread from one side (the 'stringer' or wall) to the other. This is the longest measurement of your step and is essential for deciding how much of your beautiful wood you'd like to leave showing.

The 'reveal' is the space between the edge of the carpet tread and the edge of your wooden stair. A common reveal is between ½ inch to several inches on each side. There's no wrong answer—it's all about your personal style! A great tip is to use painter's tape to outline a tread's placement on a step. This helps you visualize the final look before you even order, ensuring you get the perfect balance where safety meets style.
