Carpet Stair Covers

To begin your easy DIY stair remodel, simply count each individual stair step you walk on. Don't forget to include any landings you wish to cover! This simple count is the first step to ensuring you have the right quantity of treads for a beautiful, seamless installation.

For a perfect fit, accuracy is key. Place your tape measure at the very front edge of the step (this is often called the 'bullnose') and measure straight back until you touch the vertical panel (the 'riser'). Taking this measurement ensures your new tread will cover the main walking surface, providing maximum safety and comfort.

Measure the full width of your walking surface from one side to the other. This measurement helps you determine how much of your beautiful wood you'd like to leave exposed on either side of your new carpet tread, which we'll decide in the next step.

This is where your personal style comes in! The 'reveal' is the space between the edge of the carpet tread and the edge of your stair. For example, if your stair is 36 inches wide and you want a 1-inch reveal on each side, you would subtract 2 inches total, meaning a 34-inch wide tread is your perfect fit. This design choice beautifully frames your treads and highlights the warmth of your wooden stairs.
